Is Biopace compatible with Shimano Index front systems?

I am trying to set my wife with a 7 speed index system on her 86 MB-2. with Biopace. The rear with a swapped xt derailleur is working great but am having problems getting the front to work without dragging the chain on the cage on the small rings. I tried the stock light action derailleur and then a LX 500. and still no go. Is this set up supposed to work or perhaps I am a idiot and need to read the shimano setup directions? Shifter is a SL mc-40 which is temporary until I can find ceramic pads for xtr v-brakes and the xtr eight speed rapidfire set up. I drag the chain when on the large part of the biopace chainrings.

yes, biopace only involved the chainrings being out-of-round, it didn't change the ring to ring spacing from any other 6/7/8 speed setup. If anything, the tighter chainring gaps make for faster shifters (biopace usually goes 10T change per ring).

How do you mean by dragging? If you mean the chain is engaging the next bigger ring with its sideplate when in certain rear gears (like the smallest cog) then that's normal.

I use regular XTR pads on my ceramic rims all the time. Why not just go for the XTR shifter setup and get the pads later? It's not like you'll burn out regular pads on ceramic rims in a month, and by then you should have located some ceramic pads for your setup.

The side of the chain rubs on the inside or outside of the front derailleur shift plates in the small/middle rings regardless of how I adjust the high/low screws. It does this at the big portion of the chainrings.

Good idea, but it seems to me regardless of what shifter I had to get the thing to shift right . I put a DX FD on, went through the Shimano set up and all is good now. My wife is a pretty causual rider and I was thinking of hoarding the XTR set up for myself, it will go nice with my XTR wheelset:)
