I bought a Women's Bike

Long story short I bought a 2008 Scott scale Contessa 17'', online not really knowing it was a women's MTB. For some background It is very similar to the 2008 Scott scale 30, and from what I can tell the same frame. After doing some research I found out that these two bikes are very similar: the scale 30 has a Fox fork 100mm, the scale contessa has a rox shock reba sl 80 mm, the stem is 80mm on the contessa and 110 on the 30, wheels are different. Does anyone know any more about these models of bikes or could someone confirm that they are the same frame? At first I was in disbelief that I made this decision, but now I am pretty sure that these bikes are so similar that it is not an issue. I am a 5'8'' male 165 lbs, I will be doing mostly cross country kind of rides around Colorado. Formerly I had a specialized stumpjumper 17.5 hard tale, felt fine riding it, maybe it was a little big. Thanks.

In 2008, there were few differences between men and women bikes other than colors, grips, and saddles. Things have changed a little more recently, with different geometries between the two. Honestly, a lot of men would fit better on a women's bike and vice-versa, so if it fits and you like the color, it's perfectly fine. It's not going to break easier or give you a vagina. My wife's bike will pms once in a while, but she has a men's bike with some pink bits, so who knows..

I was pretty dumbfounded when I figured it out, and took a serious ribbing from my girlfriend. At that point I spent hours looking through the internet trying to find out more about this bike. I ordered it from a shop and they maid no mention of it being a women's bike when I spoke to them on the phone. Once I figured out that this was basically a mans bike I decided to live with it. Its a hard tail, and the front shock was also on many men's bikes. I have an extra seat so its not a big deal to change that. This is the bike:

The way I see it "If it fits, it ships". Seriously, if you fit the bike and it rides to your liking, who cares? Other people aren't riding your bike, it's yours. Looking at it the other way, the bike doesn't know or care whether your male or female. It'll do what you tell it (or make it) do. That's the beauty of mountain biking. You're the "nut behind the wheel".

You would never know my wife's '04 Stumpy was a woman's bike except that her Manitou fork says "diva" on it in small letters. You may want to peel off a sticker like that. I already swapped out her narrow womens saddle. Don't worry about it if it fits you and it rides well.

Remember when Santa Cruz's Julianna Super Light was originally a gal's bike, now no one cares. A lot of shorter guys wanting a good XC bike bought those.

It won't make him grow a vagina, but it might make his penis look smaller... kinda like a 29er...

My buddy rides an early 2000's Trek 8000. When researching the bike for him, I found out it was a women's bike. He had already purchased it, so I didn't have the heart to tell him. Actually I really like the look of the bike and you cant tell anyway. Ironically, my Waltworks has the female smiley face with pigtails head badge. The previous owner swears it was built for a guy.

I love my wife's bike. It's a 2010 Spec Era Epic. The blue/white color scheme is gorgeous and the component spec is largely better than mine. If it was my size, I'd love to have it as an xc bike.

I also ski with white ski poles with pink accents. The construction is the same as the male version, but as the market for really long women's poles is limited, they were like $15. I feel no shame whatsoever.

For a while I rode a "women's" version of a Sella SMP saddle I got off flea-bay at a good price. The only difference between it and the "men's" version was the pink stitching and the model name. That, and I did notice that I began to enjoy long walks on the beach and the Hallmark channel more than before. Strange.

Dude, ride it proudly.

P.S. 'cyclo-cross'

Get the camo spray paint and do work son. Maybe paint some flames or hang the bulls testicles on the back, if that's what you need to handle any masculinity issues. Who cares. Two wheels and pedals, and go shred.

Good for you. Who cares? Put a decal on the contessa if it bugs you but if somebody is going to judge you based on something as silly as that, then they have bigger issues.

I clicked on the thread thinking you got a step through 3 speeder....;)

You must not live anywhere near the country. I see them quite frequently on trucks around my area. I've always wanted to carry some tin snips and castrate them off the truck.
