I am relatively new to mtn biking and bike repair although I have many years of repair experience on Cars and Motorcycles.

I want to replace the bottom bracket on my 2018 Stache 7 and wonder what I'm going to encounter, or need in the way of special tools.

At this point crank and BB are stock.

I see the 8mm allen head on the right crank. I loosened it and it seems as though the entire crank assembly should come out if I remove the bolt. Is that true?

Once the crank is out will the current stock BB be pressfit, threaded ??

How will the BB be removed. Can I use a punch to tap out the bearing on either side?

When I'm reassembling: Is there any allignment that needs to be done on the chainring or does it only go on one way?

Any insight on this bike would be appreciated.

Most of the time people think that the BB is bad but it usually is something else.
Be sure that it is the source of your problems before spending the money to fix it.

The tool linked above is the correct tool for pulling the crank. You will also need a bearing press to install the new BB. As far as a new BB goes I recommend the Wheels Mfg. BB. I have just used the standard BB that they offer. Some like to use their thread together type.
The one I use is this one. https://www.amazon.com/Wheels-Manuf...s=bb92+shimano&qid=1554866764&s=gateway&sprefix=bb92,aps,217&sr=8-18&th=1&psc=1

The thread together type is this one. https://wheelsmfg.com/bottom-bracke...-brackets/bb86-92/bb86-92-outboard-abec-3-bb-for-24mm-shimano-cranks-black.html

You will need a press. you can just buy two of theses Drifts. https://www.amazon.com/Wheels-Manuf...t=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9026807&hvtargid=pla-522256146849&psc=1
Then go to Home Depot and buy a 1/2" threaded rod, it comes in a 12" length, a couple of nuts and a couple of washers.
If you get the thread together type you will need a couple more tools from Wheels Mfg.

Things to do before replacing BB:

Remove seatpost and grease it, re-install and make sure it is properly torqued.

Remove rear axle, take it apart and grease every interface, re-assemble and make sure that it is tight before you re-install it om the bike.

Make sure the lock nuts on the rear hub are tight.

Check the stem and bars to make sure they are tight.

Borrow someones pedals to make sure it's not your pedals making the noise.

Check the spokes to see if any are loose.

Make sure the rear caliper bolts are tight.

Make sure it's not your seat making the noise.

After removing drive side crank arm make sure the chain ring is tight.

Very seldom is the BB the actual source for creaks. The press fit BB92 is actually a good system. I suggest you do all the above before replacing it.
