I just bought a nx1 skookum carbon fiber fat bike, and realized it doesn't have the 3 holes that other bikes have to attach a crash guard...

North Shore Billet 76bcd 1x11 Spider for XX1 / X0 / X9 SRAM GXP Cranks Black

this was something I found from a forum, but seems, A. It isn't what I'm trying to figure out for my pedal set, or B. There isn't an option for my sram nx1 pedal set...

this is what I was able to find, but not for my bike sadly. Anyone know if I'm on the right track to finding a solution?

cheers

Maybe you are confused with a chain guide? Usually it was the chain guides that connected to the iscg mounts, some of the chain guides had a bash guard, but most would use a ring bolted to the outside of the crank set chainring. With modern clutch derailleurs and NW rings, what you probably want is a bash guard for the chainring, if anything. Modern 1x systems also decreased the size of the front gears and they are less of an issue, but bash rings still exist for stuff like trials and sliding over stuff.

I am not sure if this will fit your chain line since you are talking about a fat bike but it may: a wolf tooth chainring mounted with the camo system. This is the best way to fit a bash guard on a modern frame without iscg mounts. (The 3 bolt holes you speak of). I am not sure if that billet spider is sized to fit any available bashguards or not. If it does, and also matches your drivetrain, that would be a good solution too. But be careful with chain line requirements

Thanks so much for your response. As I'm trying to see how to fit a bash guard/chain guide, that I've seen online, probably not needed, but my other summer bike has had a few hits to protruding rocks and stumps, and would like some protection if possible. I will check with the wolf company for further details. Most appreciated.

I ended up using a 2x spider on my cranks and mounting the bash guard in the outer position, which looks to be the path you were looking towards.

I would expect that all SRAM cranks use the same chainring/spider mounting interface and the spider you listed would work with NX cranks, unless I could find some information stating specifically that it did not fit NX cranks. However, you would need a new chainring that mounts on the spider in addition to the bash guard.

If you mount a 104BCD spider (like from NSB), theses are an option I think... might be nice to only have the bashring as big as it needs to be

@Monty219 : The Wolftooth Camo Bashspiders are cool... didn't know they existed. I'd probably go this way if it were me.

To everyone on this thread, I can’t thank you all so very much on the comments to help me understand, learn and potentially find a fix to attach a bash guard and or chain guide...I think I have enough details now to continue researching into them all. With the main vision, on if it will or won’t do more damage to my cf frame. A few mentioned it might just be wise to let the damage happen to the crank as to the frame, and the more I think of how the force might add force to areas not meant to handle that force, the more I wonder if the guards may cause more expensive fixes...ie to my frame... :( but without everyone’s help and guidance, I wouldn’t have educated myself further from your responses... and for that, thank you all. I appreciate your time to explain and share your experiences with me, and hope they also educate others on this forum. Happy holidays and happy New Years to everyone!

The bashspider would put no more force into the frame than bashing the chainring - no?
