I'm looking to buy a bike that has DT Swiss EX 471 29er rims with DT Swiss hubs. They seem like much better wheels than other low end spec bikes I'm looking at and I'm thinking I'd be fine keeping them on instead of having to upgrade.

Any thoughts on the wheels in general? I know DT Swiss hubs are loud, but I'm fine with that. I'm guessing it's reliable and has decent POE

The 471 is a good strong rim. If the hubs are 350 hubs, they have an 18 point engagement. They can be upgraded to 36 or 54 points but those are louder than the relatively quiet 18 point. I would not hesitate to run the combo on any bike short of downhill.

Awesome, thank you. Exactly what I was hoping. And with an internal width of 25mm I'm thinking a 2.4" tire will work great on them.

Find out if the hub ratchet can be upgraded, I have the DT Swiss Spine M1700s, engagement is 18T, which coming from rims with I9 hubs, is terrible. I was going to upgrade the ratchets but i just ordered a custom set of ARC 27s with I9s instead, hanging onto the splines as a backup but will order a 36T ratchet kit for sure.

Dt ratchet 350 and 240 hubs aren't loud when you have fresh Dt grease on the ratchets. When you begin to hear them on the trail it's time to pop off the freehub clean and lube.

25mm is ok for 2.2-2.4. 30-35mm inner is better when you have a rounded profile tire like a Bontrager XR Team.
