If you have a vehicle with good clearance you can drive up from Highway 9 via Bridge road in Rockville. This will take you to Grafton Road, then Smithsonium Butte Rd up what is affectionately known as "cry baby hill" and takes you to either the Wire Mesa or Grafton trailheads. If you don't have good clearance, then you'll want to do it the way you described via Hwy 59.

Or hit Guacamole since your on that side. IMO it's a bit more compelling than Wire Mesa.

 

Immensely so vs Wire Mesa but Grafton is pretty bad-a$$. I wouldn't be taking many chances riding solo over there. Plenty of opportunity to get hurt.

Yep. Wire Mesa /Grafton loop within a loop via Cry Baby hill and Undisclosed is a good ride. One of my favorites. Start at Grafton Cemetery.

And yes, hit up Guacamole while you're there

I rode Guacamole last time I was up there, thus looking for something new. Uncertain whether I wanna climb that "road" which I'm guessing is Cry Baby Hill so I guess I know what category that puts me in...

There's a new trail on Trailforks right behind where I'm staying in Springdale called Steamboat Mountain Pioneer Trail I may ride as well. It's short and, given its proximity to Springdale, likely not too challenging but we'll see.

And, it's supposed to snow on Saturday so Sunday may be my only option.

 

What's the "best" direction to run Wire Mesa?
If I do run the downhill trails what's the better trails, Dig It (with or without Reach Around) or the Money trails?

 

Go up the main road past wire Mesa and look for a rock cairn. That's "undisclosed" ride that into wire Mesa clockwise.

As for grafton- show me the money into grafton.

 

There is already snow on the Mesa's, as of now. That means Wire Mesa is out for a while.

Well, that blows... That means Grafton, Guacamole, and Gooseberry are out as well, right?

Any options outside of heading back to St George?

 

We ride Quail Creek/Boy Scout CW. We ride Wire Mesa in both directions each ride but I'm one of the minority that prefers it CCW.
