Hi to everyone!

I'm an happy Giant Reign 29" 2020 owner (I've got the model: Advanced 1 - size: M) and I really love it!

So... In these days of world chaos due to COVID-19 I would like to do maintenance service my beloved Giant Reign, starting with the frame linkages.

But... Online, don't exist a detailed manual but only a generic table with geometry specs, components ecc.

I need to know, for example, the torque value for the main pivot about the upper carbon linkage. Tha only axle that is not black anotized.

I already wrote to Giant Italia (I live in Rome) for a manual, but they told me don't have public docs! I can't believe it. Every big bycicle brand (and Giant is a very big brand!) give to their customer, a documentation with basically service (maintenance) procedure step-by-step, specs, torque values, ecc.

Before my actual Reign 2020, I had an Intense Tracer 275C and I was able to download the manual with images about frame service, torque specs, advices about suspansions SAG ecc ecc. Naturally, when I bought the Tracer, in the box I found also a printed version of the manual.

So, at the moment I hope to know at least the torque value (Nm or Lbs) for the main pivot about the upper carbon linkage: the only axle that hasn't signed on it the torque value. Below a pict.

Torque value for that bolt is on the other side of the rocker. When I disassembled my Trance 29 rocker I made sure that side was just a bit more than finger tight, then torqued the other side to spec. No worries so far

Hi and thanks for the support!

Both sides of the bolts have no torque values (external view). I had already checked them before.

This bolt/axle is the only one that has no values. Curious!

In my opinion, Giant's new policy does not want to share official documentation to avoid amateur maintenance that could void the lifetime warranty. But I find it a little strange.

All the big brands share manuals, etc. with their customers for a basic approach to indoor service. ORBEA offer lifetime warranty and shares documentation.

It's also curious because all the other bolts have the torque values on them ... apart from this main pin for the upper carbon connection.

Maybe they forgot to write it on haha!

I really love my new MTB but it would also be nice to have manuals.

Bye, k

That is strange! Either way, tighten the bolt on the other side. The Trance 29 bolts that attach to the shock and rocker are all 11nm. If your shock bolts are also 11nm, chances are that is the toque for that side. Hopefully a new Reign owner will chime in and correct me if I’m wrong

Yes! It is strange also that there is no manual like for all the other houses that produce mtb (ORBEA, Yeti, YT, Santacruz, ecc) I can not believe it :\

However, all the other bolts\axles (of the joints\links) of the frame, indicate a value of 15Nm.

Thanks

Those specs are the same across models, so you can take a look at any other model. In my experience you're much better off using less than maximum torque (the torque values are MAX not recommended - if it's 11NM, 6NM could work just as well). Use blue loctite or equivalent and you don't really need much torque on bolts and you don't need torque wrench.

Here guys!

Only Giant UK has kindly provided me with the torque specs: main pivot upper carbon link: 9-11 Nm and 12-15 Nm for the others.

However, I find it really shameful and frustrating there is no official manual with all the useful information. All other houses publishing specifications, manuals, video tutorials etc. Giant instead no! Absurd.

Thank you all for your time and courtesy.

Regards
Alex from Rome

Yes, I totally agree. Giant makes great bikes and I am loving my Reign 29, but they need to update their website and customer practices.

They should have torque specs., shock tuning guide, BB info, etc.

Come on Giant!
