Funny Strava observations

Ever notice that if someone is riding slow, recovering, riding with their kids etc., they ALWAYS put this in their ride name (i.e. "Slow ride with the kids" etc.)? So funny…wouldn't want anyone to think that they were riding casual/slow without a good reason! Avid Strava user here and hey...I do it too  Any other Strava "funnies" for those that use it?

The title of the ride is often the fastest way to look back to see what you were doing that day.
Same here. I give all my rides descriptive names for my own personal reference. It makes it easy for me when I'm looking back to tell at a glance that this ride was a recovery ride, that ride was intervals on the road bike, and whatever.

I was going to say that I don't bother logging slow rides with the kids, but I do when I take them on the trails. They like to know how far they rode and to see where they went on a map.

I don't ride on an indoor trainer, but if I did I'd probably log that time for the sake of completeness, too. It is time spent training, after all. If you're working towards specific goals then it all counts.

I laugh when I do some routine ride at one of the local parks and some random pro or Strava addict thousands of miles away in California gives me kudos for it.

I like giving my rides titles that make me laugh about some memory of that ride (like "Gnat Jacket" for one ride where the gnats were swarming very densely and clinging to my jersey like a jacket). Probably makes no sense to anyone else who follows me there (most of my rides are solo, anyway), but they make me smile when I'm looking at my ride history.

Yup a couple guys I follow do this. Usually racers.

That is because Strava is Facebook for cyclists.

For some people it is a status symbol. The more people the fillow(Friend Me), the more Kudos(Likes) I'll get.....which means I am more popular than you are.

Have seen users that are following 3000 people.....highly doubt they know all of them.

I finished a ride on one of my local trails a few days ago. After getting home, showering, and eating, I was reviewing the ride on Strava. Scrolling down the segments, I saw it. MY FIRST KOM! I did it! At 49 years old, I just beat every one of those young kids and am the KING OF THE MOUNTAIN!

Then I looked at the segment. Hmmm...I don't recognize that as being part of my ride. in fact, it's a segment on the road that leads to the trailhead. Damn...I forgot to turn Strava off and it recorded my drive home as part of a segment.

It was good to be the King for a few minutes.

Oh, trust me, I got the message. Even though it showed me as KOM for that segment, it didn't list me with the riders who really had the good times. In other words, it listed me as KOM on my app, but not in the Strava rankings. I got home and pulled it up online and my page was one big red warning: "ALERT! IT APPEARS ONE OF YOUR SEGMENTS WAS COMPLETED IN A VEHICLE! Would you like to crop this ride?" Which I did.

I do that so that I remember why my pace was slower, faster or had lots of starts and stops that day. In fact I always put a little description in the ride so that I remember who I was with and what I was doing. For road rides I often call out the wind direction and if I was just not feeling good. It puts everything in context.

My Stava signature pretty much allows me to post any ride without explanation

"I can't climb well and do not sprint well so I over compensate with bad form and lack of endurance"

I love Strava for the MTB rides so I can see where I have been on new trails so I might find them again or see options off of the same ride.

^^^I tried purposely not to FB it when I set it up (adding everyone and their brother regardless of how well I knew them) - only follow those that I actually know/care about. It is kind of FB for cyclists but I like that it motivates me to ride more, try harder, etc. All good things.
