Still feels like absolute garbage when braking through anything choppy, but it's a start.
That is where adding HSC helps. With your set-up you are probably blowing through the travel on the first hit and then just smashing against bottom through the rest of the braking bumps. The downside is HSC will make the fork harsher on single hits.

This is the tradeoff that tuning the damper solves. If I added damping LSC to help the fork avoid brake dive it got harsh very quickly. I added HSC to control big hits and no more than necessary to keep the fork using travel appropriately.
I kept rebound as fast as possible to keep the fork fast enough to recover between repeated hits and avoid packing down.

With the tuned damper I have far more damping support but the harshness is gone. Fork is simultaneously more supportive and more supple.

Well... Oddly enough, I just saw that Universal cycles has some '22 lyriks on sale for 50% off. So, my first foray into fox forks since 2008 is coming to an end after only a month.
Anybody looking for a barely used '22 factory 36 with a healthy 8" steerer? 😂

The Lyrik will be harsh as well.

If you want to fix it either need to send the damper to Dougal or replace it with an Avalanche damper.

I’d give it some breakin time and a tune if need be. I’m telling you, mine just keeps feeling better with milage. And I also run the compression adjuster on the right side 3/4 of the way clockwise. Running lower pressures and making that adjustment made it feel really good for me.

It's impossible for the Charger 2/2.1 damper to not be harsh. Running the compression damping open and running lower spring pressure only helps mask the harshness issue.

If 92gli is feeling the harshness in the Fox damper, they will feel in the Lyrik damper as well.

I suspect I'll be fine with it. Through 2 revelations and 3 pikes I never had any stress with their feel. I generally just used their suggested settings and was happy.
I'm definitely not the type to throw as much as I paid for the fork into a damper upgrade. But thank god I got the 36 so cheap. I won't lose much.

You'd be better off throwing the money into a damper.

Instead of spending more money on another compromised fork, spend the money to making the fork you have work great. A custom damper will far out perform any stock damper.

Word of caution, I'm looking to upgrade my '21 Lyrik Ultimate due to the same behaviors you are experiencing with your Fox fork. Effectively very hard to use the damping how it is supposed to be used because when you do it rides harsh as hell in fast chunk, and is still not supportive enough when things get very steep. The best I can get it is running more psi than I should with almost no damping. I feel every bump and traction isn't great but it is marginally better than the alternative.

Right now I'm on the fence between a Mezzer or ohlins, or having my Lyrik damper tuned/upgraded.

Yeah, I've heard. But I'd rather deal with the devil I know. I only got the fox because there were no great deals on the pikes or lyriks a month ago. Now they're here so...
The 36 is really a bit burly for my needs anyway. And almost a pound heavier than the pike it replaced (7 ounces heavier than the claimed weight too. That pissed me off)

Was your 36 new when you bought it? Is it factory or Perf Elite? Care to trade a 2023 Pike?

Just figure you'll still want to tune the Ohlins or Mezzer damper, it'll just be easier/cheaper to do. For the Lyrik you'll either need to send it to Dougal or Mario, or drop an Avalanche damper in.
1st world problems but it is frustrating. I just need to settle on whether I want one of the beefier chassis to start with or to just fix up my current Lyrik.

Would your reply be any different three weeks ago versus today? Answer the question please.
My reply is exactly the same. The internet shows endless built and groomed trails there.

Did you wake up from hibernation and expect all the built trails in Canada to have magically vanished?
