Have you checked to see if the bleeders in your lowers are actually working? The bleeders in my 2022 Fox 36 Performance Elite Grip2 VVC are terrible (as is the rest of the fork IMO). I can get full travel on my fork with 3 spacers and 20% sag when the lowers are bled, but frankly, the 36 nearly always feels terrible even at its best performance (compared to our 2018 Pike and 2019 / 2022 Lyriks). When the 36 lowers are not bled I can get about 50% travel and it hurts my hands a lot.
Pushing the bleed button on my 36 usually lets out a small amount of air, so it "seems" to be working OK. However when I then stick a cable tie in the stanchion seals like I do with our older Rockshox forks, I can usually get a larger puff of air from the 36 lowers after bleeding with the bleeders.
I have been riding this Fox 36 on my Stumpjumper Evo for about 18 months and have 2000 miles on it. It has been harsh since day 1. I do the maintenance and it gets better for a while before it reverts back to being terrible. I bleed the lowers with a cable tie and it gets better for a while before it reverts back to being terrible. It is nearly always harsh in mid travel bumps, but with lowers bled correctly it feels really good in small bump and chatter. I never really complain about big hits because I figure big hits where I use 80% of the travel are always going to feel rough (?).
I am tired of this and really want to buy a new fork but they are expensive and I have many other family things I need to spend the money on instead. I know the pros can make the Fox 36 fork work, but they have access to support I don't have. I know people like myself who ride bikes better than I can who tell my that Fox suspension is overrated crap. I have people tell my I don't know what I'm doing, that is why I cannot make it work, but no matter what I do my Fox 36 sucks compared to our Pike and Lyrics, and if I don't know what I'm doing, why do our Rockshox forks work for months on end with zero effort, while my Fox 36 requires me to screw around with it on a weekly basis? The Asheville NC service center is about 4 hours away from me but I think if I spend several hundred dollars to send it in there, I'll get it back and it will be exactly the same as it always has been so I don't want to throw the money away. I'm at the point where I don't know what to do with it but at the same time I've had enough and I'm done with it.
Anyway I guess I'm ranting now, sorry about that. Check the bleeders, they don't work well on my 36.
