Fatty 29 DL50 Headshok

So this popped up on a saved search, and I immediately pulled the trigger without really having any plans for it. I seem to be compulsively collecting oddball Headshoks. Now I'm really hoping one of the XL 29er Caffeine frames I passed on for lack of a fork will come up on eBay again.

Anybody know anything about these? I googled and couldn't find much about them - just a lot on the non-suspension Fatty 29ers, and a forum post mentioning that they were only available on Police models in the US(?)

Yes, it is odd. I already have a 700c 50mm disc Headshok that was also a new take-off from a mystery bike. It will clear at least a 29x1.95 Kenda Karma tire and doesn't look anywhere near as wide as this 80mm fork. Should be interesting to see how this affects geometry.

The fork arrived last night. I was immediately disappointed to see that it's a "DL50" despite being posted as having 80mm travel. The photos on eBay didn't have enough resolution to tell the "50" from an "80," so I accepted the description. Trying to decide if I am pissed enough to return it, as I already have a 50mm fork that can do that job. That said, it looks like it's got enough clearance for a 3"+ tire, and I do live in flat-ass Ohio, so maybe I can live with the short travel.

I'd demand a fat discount, straight up.

I detest crappy listers giving false info when the information is right in front of them. SOOOOOO lazy.

Not unlike folks who list Schwinn's as Shwins, SRAM components as SCRAM or SCHRAM, Specialized as Speshulised whatever.

The word is right there Einstein, all you need to do is copy it and bam, you don't look like an illiterate buffoon...

I sent this about an hour ago:
Received the shock last night. It is a DL50, which means it has 50mm of travel, rather than the 80mm in the description. The images in the eBay listing were not clear enough to make that DL50 label out. I already have a 50mm 29er Headshok, and was hoping to upgrade. I'm still trying to decide if I want to request a refund or just put it in the feedback, but I wanted to let you know why in advance.
And 30 minutes later a full refund hit my PayPal, followed by an emailed apology and permission to keep the fork. :eekster::thumbsup:

Here are some specs, in case anyone else is considering one...

Center of axle to crown: 15"
Width @ crown: 1.5"
Width @ 14.5": 2.5"
Width @ 14": 3.2"
Width @ 13.5" 3.75" (max)

Weight (with both bearings, the lower race, and the lockout lever): 3lbs.7.1oz/1562g

And now another one has been posted: http://r.ebay.com/EQICLO

The extended description says it is a take-off from a 2017 Trail 29 - but it also says it has a 1.5" steerer, and I already confirmed mine's a 1.56". Maybe I should buy this one too and then see if complaining about the wrong steerer info gets me another freebie.

FYI, three of these popped up on eBay last night for $189 buy-it-now. They are listed as having 1.5" steerer tubes, but so was mine, and they look identical. Two have different livery - one with "Althea" and the other with "CX."

I got it all built and rode it around in the driveway. The geo feels good, but the 26x2.3 rear CrossKing RaceSport was a hair too big for the frame. I picked up a 26x2.2 to replace it, but I haven't taken the time to swap it out yet. Now that it's cool enough outside to deal with sealant spatter on my lunch break I should be hooking that up soon. But I'm probably also going to be swapping on the older 50mm 700/29er headshok I have, because I don't need all this clearance for a 2.3 and the modern-looking Fatty looks off on my old-school CAAD4 frame.

Nice!

I finally got the rear tire swapped out. The bike feels more... fun in the driveway- my weight is further back, so it likes to wheelie. However, that is not great when climbing. I might swap on a longer stem and push the seat forward, but I'm also looking into either picking up a Caffeine 29er frame in Large to run on 27.5+ wheels, or maybe having something custom built in Ti that I can put my Lefty Max on. Or I may just go back to 26" up front on the CAAD4. I'll probably end up with whatever option means the most bikes sitting in my garage.

Here's one for a little bit less than that. I'm considering posting mine up on eBay, but I want to get my stable sorted out first, to make sure I won't regret letting it go. Right now I have 4 Cannondales (two of which almost never get ridden), plus 2 extra Headshoks and an extra Lefty in the closet. I'd really like to get down to 2 bikes and no spares by the end of the year. If I offer up my Fatty I'll post a link here.

Never seen a Fatty 29er, 50mm is fine for a silk roadie commuter I suppose. Not buying yet another claim of a free fork tho, there was no refund, dude just decided to keep it with 50mm travel, which is cool; but if I had a dollar for all the "free" forks riders have ended up with I'd have enough to get that new Lefty Ocho 120!

Ya caught me! I built 23 years' of 100% positive feedback on eBay by stealing people's ****.

I still owe you a nice pic of the 29" fork you sent me already 1.5 years ago @Josh_W.

Its mounted for six months already and its doing a awesome job. As you can see I mounted it on a F29 carbon frame and finished it with a GRX800 1x12 groupset with dropbar. With this setup I'm able to use the bike for various disciplines. Mountainbiking, gravelling or beach races: it's perfect for all of it. Again, many thanks for handing over this rare fork!

Looks great!

I ended up buying an rebuilding the white Caffeine 29er frame JWesty showed above, but used a 110mm(?) carbon Lefty 29er instead of my other 50mm Headshok. I love it, but there is just something about the clean, old-school look of a Hedshok. Might use that 50mm for a gravel build, if I can score another compatible frame, or come up with the dosh for custom Ti.
