Caveat emptor...
I ordered a new Avid CS GS 3 160 mm rotor off ebay for $7 shipped. When I got it and examined it closely I began to suspect it was a fake.
Using the info found in the thread "Rotors "striping," I noted that:
1. There is no "Multi-directional surface grounding," it's all one direction.
2. The "Sharp laser-like engravings" do seem somewhat sharp, but after I rubbed over the lettering it appears white, not black. The arrows and text do appear in the same areas on the rotor, though.
3. I cannot weigh it, so that is moot.
4. The Avid site has a CS GS 3 shown in the 2012 parts catalog, for the same size. This one is new, and I don't care if it's 2 year old.
5. The inset color is black.
I can't find any occurrences of any CS GS 3s on the 'net IDd as fakes. Attached is a pics but it doesn't show the detail very good.
The red arrow points to the Avid logo, while the yellow lines denote direction of surface grounding.
