Any larger or aggressive riders have feedback on the Duroc 35 rims or wheelset? Found a set cheap with src hubs. Wondering how they'll hold up to chunky trails under a 200lbs Rider.

I have a buddy that is 205 and is a pretty hard charging rider. We ride socal tech together as that's sort of our bag, super steep, chunky and rough. His worst skill as a rider is line selection and his rear wheel has stood up to his poor choices for the last year without issue.

I ordered two sets...the 2nd after the first arrived. I was trying to find differences between the comps and experts you can find elsewhere and this is what I think is the difference:
-comps are OEM vs experts aftermarket. I think Pivot spec'd some Duroc and src hubs last year?
-welded rims on the expert vs sleeved on the comp
-hubs are src which appear to have the same internals but the srx hubs are straight and src are j bend. Bearings are the same and you can see the parts diagram on their website
-freehub is chromo on the the comps and alloy of the experts.
For $132 I think they are pretty decent.

I figured the rims were the same but sleeved isn't a big deal I guess. How do you like the wheels? I'm a bit of a smasher but run tire inserts so hope they hold up.

My set will be here on Thursday so I'll give them a thrashing and see how they do. For the price not sure I could go wrong unless the explode lol. Only thing that had me concerned is they are listed as 6061 alloy. I rode a set of Crankbrothers Iodine 3 last month and on first and second ride it dented the rim bed and got a sidewall ding all the while running a tire insert. Hopefully these can survive better.
Did you get a chance to take them out?

I have had them out on a couple rides so far, one of them being the route that dings rims pretty easily. So far they are fine with no issues and I am running an insert in the rear. Hub engagement is 30poe and they are as close to silent that I have ever had. Wondering if they will get any louder but either way they are fine. Pretty happy so far, so long as they hold up.

This is a really old thread and no one followed up so I'll give my experience. My first bike came stock with Duroc 40 and formula hubs. I put about a thousand miles on that wheelset with a lot of abuse. Rock gardens, heavy roots and occasionally riding over a fallen tree. I am a light rider but started off at about 180lbs and I'm now about 145lbs. The rims had a couple of dents and a slight wobble but other than that they held up much better than the rear hub did. Since the rims were cheaper and I had a good experience with them I bought an expert front wheel and had a hope pro 4 built on a new Duroc 40 rim. I'm not doing any riding like I was when I started out so I was confident the durocs would last even longer especially with the hope hub. I can't speak for those who are over 200 lbs but I could imagine most rims would get beat up pretty quickly in the right terrain at that weight. If I were big and heavy I might want to go with Dt swiss or something else. Depending on how much you abuse them the Duroc 40s might last a lifetime at the weight.

I've been riding Duroc35's for the last 3 years or so. I'm a Sun-Ringle distributor. Profile is pretty similar to the old school Mavic D321 (XM729) but lighter. The last one I built up was lighter than claimed. Only 476g for 27" version where they claim 495g: Düroc 35 Rim
I juggled for a while between going for the lighter Duroc 35 or the stronger Duroc SD37 which is similar but has reinforced edges to make it stronger and heavier. But the 35's have been great and I'll stick with them. I get the occasional dent but they stay true and have taken a beating.
I was on the Duroc 30's before that but wanted a wider and stronger rim.

Long term update - The Duroc 35 Comps I have performed amazingly for the $135 price I payed new. Hubs did get a little louder but I would say they are still quieter than say the DT Swiss 36t star ratchet. I mostly ran the rear with an insert, once with no air through a rocky section and no dings. Rims seem very strong although the wheelset was around 2200g. The lower end hub never had an issue and was able to swap drivers with relative ease. I did have a bad crash and put a wobble in the front rim which I was told wasn't fixable. I would not hesitate to get another set or even a higher end model.
