Hey Crew
I'm a big Trek Fan.. I currently have both a Slash and a 2023 Trek Roscoe 7. I did a review for our YouTube channel of the new 2023 Trek Roscoe 7. I broke down the math between the new Roscoe line up and why an experienced rider should NOT but the R7 model.

What do you guys think?
Is anyone currently riding a new R7 or R8?
Did you wish you purchased the R9 right away?

There are not many options that come better equipped than the R9 at $2700. What have you seen on the market that is close? One viewer pointed out to me that the Vitus VRX 29 comes close and is $700 cheaper... but you have to get it form the UK... not sure what shipping is, plus its a fox 34, exterior cable routing, 130mm fork, and a few other details not as nice as the R9.

Or the ones that have some sort of sensationalized heading about whatever they're doing being the 'sickest'/scariest or whatever bullshit they're trying too hard to be 'down' about.

Or positing loaded questions formulated like, "Is carbon worth it????"

Or saying "First ride on ___, does it live up to the hype????"

It's literally the same thing everywhere, every sport/interest. Just general magoos that don't know their asses from holes in the ground, working hard to shamelessly monetize the subject and biasedly promote the **** that they just got for free...because, reach arounds make the van go vroom.

YouTube is largely a cesspit that you need to dig through fervently to find the people actually posting worthy vids with the true intent of sharing knowledge.

Even worse is the comments in general. Sycophantic cheerleaders as far as the eye can see.

You'll never believe what happened after I bought the new Roscoe 7
Bike shops hate this weird trick with a Roscoe 7
I gave up mountain biking when I rode a Roscoe 7
Trek no longer making bikes after the Roscoe 7
Roscoe 7, Roscoe 8?
I lost it with the new Roscoe 7
Van life is over, Roscoe 7 is in
I got kicked out of the bike park riding a Roscoe 7
Roscoe 7, looks like a Session

1) How many wheelsets have you built,- zero - I let professionals do that... that does not mean I don't know the difference between a low and high engagement hub.
2) Your position on pressfit bottom brackets, and- why would I want a pressfit BB? Lets go threaded please
3) If you have a bmx background.- I do- used to race ABA BMX- that is why I got into MTB

I would negotiate a 25% discount for a cash buy on a 9. You can do that only with a manager for cash. Do not talk money with any sales guy. They are trained to lie about any discount possibility. Figure the discounted price plus tax and use this figure not a %discount as your out the door position. You can qualify a manager over the phone. Trek dealers can pull bikes from a Trek warehouse. Have it included in the next regular shipment to avoid special shipping costs. Uffer 60% cash as a down payment if the shop has to order.
Good luck.

There was a window about 5-10 years ago when this sort of MTB content on Youtube was new and amateurs were able to get in and gain a following. Regular people like Seth's Bike Hacks, Singletracks Sampler, BKXC, etc. filled that niche quite well. They were rough when they started, but they learned and got better (or didn't and got squeezed out).

Now you get the follower-on folks who saw their success and try to replicate it. Problem for these folks is the competition is way, way better now. You've got pros like Remy Metailler and Jeff Lenosky who are not only getting the content dialed, they are some of the most talented riders in the world. Then you've got pro-level content from places like Pinkbike and GMBN. It's way harder now for aspiring "influencers."

It's actually not, NOW is actually a great time to grow on YT... YT is on a mission to be the "all in one" social media platform. With the giant push on shorts to battle tik tock and the new community pages to battle Facebook and Twitter (which is in an odd place in the moment). YT being powered by Google is the 2nd largest search engine on the web, and getting more and more eyeballs every day. We started our channel for fun and not trying to make a living off of it, but it is fun to watch it grow and have riders come up to us on the trails asking questions. MTB103 is a very small channel but we provide fun, entertaining content, mixed MTB facts and opinions. Hope you watched and enjoyed the video even if it was just for a few seconds. - Tyson

Possibly, I watch the Loam Wolf channel and I don't see us being similar, but maybe I watch too many videos and they all run together for me. Our goal is to make the videos entertaining with some production value and some insight on a product, trail, or experience we had while riding. Flip through a few of our videos and see if there is something you like.

I clicked and watched your video and you are doing the math wrong.
80% of all MTB buyers aren't planning to upgrade, most of them even don't change their chains or brakepads or lube any parts.
The Roscoe 7 doesn't focus on the hardcore shreddy flexxy bikepark hippies, it is for low budget people.
The only ones who are doing the math right are the manufacturers, who makes you believe spending more on higher model is better instead going with entry level components.

I agree with you for anyone getting their 1st bike... the R7 is PERFECT for that. I am on a few MTB Roscoe forums and you would be surprised how many buyers purchase the cheapest bike and then go stick a $1k fork on it after one ride! It's Crazy! So this video was intended for riders with some biking experience looking to make and upgrade to an modern HT.

Those kinds of headlines are really annoying. Nobody's opinion on something is that important. I mean even if you were the greatest mountain biker in the history of the world; it's still just an opinion and nobody in their right mind should "NOT BUY A ROSCOE 7" without getting your advice first... jeebus dude.

Google Ryan F9 and watch his YT video's. Him and his team are AMAZING and what every tuber should aspire to. It's hilarious how many comments he gets from people who have no actual interest in riding motorcycles but subscribe and comment on his videos because he's just so good at what he does...

One more thing. This week the CEO of Rose bikes (1 of the biggest direct bike seller in Germany) gave an interview and said, that 30% of all models in the industry are not for the consumer, it is for the brand to have a overwhelming portfolio and the customer thinks, he has choice.

I mean, why does Trek have 4-5 different hardtail MTBs in their portfolio, marlin, Roscoe, Farley, procaliber, x-caliber?
Wtf, that makes no sense?

The real issue isn't whether or not you are a good youtuber. The issue is that you're clearly coming to this forum to try to get some clicks and make some money and nobody here appreciates the shameless plug. We already have to look at ads on the sidebar, but that advertising is a means to keeping this forum running. What is good is your free advertising doing for THIS community? We know how to find content on Youtube if we want, but we don't. There's a reason we're on the forums rather than Youtube.
