A few years ago I realized that HG-53, HG-73 & HG-93 chains were all the same for me (even XTR/Dura Ace ones). Just as I think CN-5600 and CN-6600 are similiar, I assure you Dura Ace specific 10 speed has better quality.
The only difference is in the finish, the silverest the more expensive. Same weight, same pins, same tolerances, same durability.
Now,Âżwhat makes HG-74 & HG-94 flavours different?
Info from Shimano (differences in red):
CN-HG94 HG-X 10-speed chain
Directional chain for optimized shifting performance
Right side optimized for perfect front shifting at the chain rings
Left side optimized for perfect rear shifting at the sprockets
Excellent mud shedding thanks to the special outer link plate design
Zinc-alloy plated
Not compatible with 10-speed road chains
CN-HG74 HG-X 10-speed chain
Directional chain for optimized shifting performance
Right side optimized for perfect front shifting at the chain rings
Left side optimized for perfect rear shifting at the sprockets
Excellent mud shedding thanks to the special outer link plate design
Not compatible with 10-speed road chains
