Hi.

I'm gonna do a service on Specialized E150 fork.

For this, the Buzzy Slick Honey is recommended grease.
But, this is not availible in Norway, but I do have Pedro Syn grease availible.

Can anyone tell what's the differense is between the lubes and if I can use Pedro syn grease ( http://www.pedros.com/products.htm) instead of the Slick Honey?

From what I read, the Slikc Honey is a thin lube, but Pedros isn't that (I think...)

Thanks!

(posted on suspension forum as well, but no reply yet..)

Pedros synthetic grease will work, it is thick and should remain in those seals 3 or 4 times longer than Slick Honey would.

If it turns out to be too thick, because of the local temperatures there, I would use the thinnest Marine Bearing Waterproof Grease, I could find. I have used this in the past with good results. Also, I absolutely love Dow Corning #33 Lithium based, Low temperature grease. It is also known as “Shocker Lube” in the Paint Balling world. But, I doubt you could find that product in Norway at all.

I don't know about Pedro's but I found out that Slick Honey is a "calcium-based" grease, like any other having a yellow tint. Others may be added with teflon, which I don't think would affect the color (I don't remember about Slick).

Thanks,

I've read these link about slick honey;
http://www.slickoleum.com/html/___about_slickoleum.html
and; http://www.slickhoneyusa.com/

PB Matrix; what's the lowest temprature you think Redros will handle before it slows down the fork??

I can go to a motorshop and look for a kind of grease that is thinner than Pedros and see what they have.

I can't do much wrong here as long as I don't use lithium-based grease - correct?

One more question... I've Fox fork oil at my workshop, is this useable for E150?

Fox Oil is OK as lube for the lowers, it is most likely 7 weight and smells amazingly like Synthetic ATF.

Pedros is pretty thick stuff, I would say that temps above 0 Celsius it will be great, Below -10 C, everything in the world starts to act funny. So, the range between 0 and –10 C, I can’t really say what it will do.

All consumer automotive and marine waterproof greases will not re-act negatively with rubber seal and o-rings. So technically you could go to your local automotive or marine shop, get a can of waterproof wheel bearing grease and use it on all parts of your bike. But, even I fall for the techno babble on the labels and pay a higher price because the words say it is better. (Slick50 Grease in this case)

Just today I found out that Phil’s Tenacious oil is nothing more than green colored Bar and Chain oil used for chainsaws. I am glad I never bought any for $4.00 an ounce when I could get almost an entire gallon of it for $6.00. Park’s grease is just blue colored waterproof grease, Pedros’ synthetic grease is also sold as the ultimate firearm grease. Kerosene is sold as Goof Off paint spill remover. Mobile 1 synthetic grease is alone, it sucks. That new chain oil Chain #5 or something like that is purely 0W-20W Synthetic Motor oil, even thou they claim it is very close to it, but not the same. The directions say Apply and wait ten minutes for the oil to soak, then wipe off the excess. Imagine that, I do the same with synthetic motor oil and it works great, ‘cept I add a bit of Acetone to help clean the chain and to let the oil flow in the links faster.

Repacked grease and oils are just another place where gullible consumers gets taken..

Hbbaken,

I was thinking, if you find the Pedro's grease is too thick. Mix it with a bit of 3 in 1 oil, Hair Clipper Oil or Sewing Machine oil (All the same exact product, just a different package).

You would take a dab of grease and a squirt of oil in a small plastic container, mix it together, add more grease or oil to get it to the consistencies you want, then let it sit for a few hours to see if it separates or otherwise does something strange. If it seems Ok after a few hours, try it on the fork seals.
