It is said Cycling not only gives you a great feeling of freedom (you’re outside!) and thrill of speed (you really feel it with the wind rushing past your cheeks) but it also encourages the release of ’endorphins’. Endorphins are your bodies “feel good” drug, and their release is triggered by exercise...do you think so?

Well duh! Any endurance exercise does and this has been known for at least 40 years.

Prolonged, vigorous exercise stresses the body and stimulates the release of endorphins. Endorphins are one of several natural brain chemicals that are directly or indirectly credited with the enhanced mood, calm and sometimes euphoric feelings that many people experience during or after running, cycling, swimming, or other forms of strenuous endurance exercise.

I'd post the web site I referenced this from but its blatant spam for runners motivational jewelry

here is a study done by the Germans in 2008 proving the long debated theory of "Runners High" Runners' High Demonstrated: Brain Imaging Shows Release Of Endorphins In Brain

Adrenaline, endorphine, dopamine, serotonine....
Cyclists like to make the world believe that cycling is healthy and saves the planet etc, but actually they're just drug addicts.

So I guess the question you have to ask yourself, then, is: Is cycling exercise?

My wife says I seem much happier after going for a ride, I feel 100000% better that's for sure.

There has to be something to this. However, there must be something extra to it for mountain biking. What is so thrilling about riding in the dirt with trees all around you? I'm not sure, but it sure beats riding on a paved trail or road. If I don't get my dirt riding "fix" I tend to get crabby. I must be addicted.
