My chain has been dirty lately since i rode a lot, i know how to clean my chain, but after degreasing it and drying it, can i just use old towel to dry it, and can i use the same towel after i lube the chain and get the excess lube off? the towel is pretty dirty has a lot of old lube on it

An old towel is OK. Better if its clean. Somewhat. Soak it in detergent and run it through the wash on the hottest setting. It'll be improved.
Don’t throw item in the wash if you have a wife. You’ll risk contaminating the washer with traces of grease. use up the towel/rag then throw it away and start over. I but those microfiber towels at Costco.

If doing that, be carefuf to not get greasy debris on the rotor.
For sure, throw piece of cardboard on the floor if your worried about it.

For a nasty gunked up chain Ive used WD (or solvent) in the past for cleaning, then blow out thoroughly with compressed air (using the carboard you can see the grime that comes out). Wipe and relube, work excellent.
