Any way to check if you have any sealant left in your tire without popping a bead? I was thinking of using a thin, clear tube or straw. Remove the valve core with valve stem at the 6:00 position, wheel suspended. Insert straw through valve stem till it bottoms. Put thumb over straw. Remove and inspect. If there's little to no sealant in the straw, add more; otherwise it's ok.

Other than shaking the tire to hear if any is in it, that sounds like a good idea. My guess would be that if you can't hear it then there isn't enough present to be effective.

Orange Seal has a cool little dipstick with crosshatching on the end so you can see the depth easily.Fits in the valve after removing the core.

I like the dipstick idea. I'd probably use something else (ie. cheaper), but same concept. I've heard of people using syringes to remove the sealant from their tire by sticking it through the valve. I've had orange seal turn into water on me before (after a year in the tire and all the latex solidified), and i could see wanting to remove the old sealant to check it out.

The straw should work, but I prefer to open the tire on one side and remove the boogers. It also allows me to visual the quality of the sealant as watts stated.

Why so much worry with splitting hairs? IF the sealant is dry or only half there, pump in 2oz. Its not like you're sealing the casing or the beads. The weight is insignificant. IMO, better to have a bit too much than not enough. Cutting it close has no value for stuff like this.

I'm thinking the boogers would help to balance the wheel.
Absolutely not! I picked up a horrible shake last summer on my HT at speed. I had added sealant at least once to the tire and it was close to the end of its life. I removed it to find a giant Stanimal inside it. New tire with fresh sealant and problem gone.
