Greetings all....
I've scourered the archives, searched the web, and collected tons of info on what frame and parts to acquire... Here's some thoughts...

Frame/Fork: On-one Inbred (has options to convert to geared later and is steel). Also looking at Vassago Jaberwocky... On-one has frame and reba race fork package for $545...seems hard to beat !
Brakes: Thinking BB7's..my 26" FS bike has juicy 7's that turkey gobble like crazy. BB7's seem low tech, good reviews, and cheap, relatively speaking.
Wheels: from Bicycle Wheel Warehouse, Mavic TN719 29er Custom Bike Wheels
Cranks: Truvative 1.1's...but if anyone has suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

That's the major stuff...Thought about a build kit, but you're stuck with the package other than jenson.

In terms of budget, want to keep it under 2k, but more importantly, just want to be practical with the expense. I figure if SS isn;t for me, I can always do 2x9 or 1x9.

thx all...

I bought a Jabber last Christmas after seeing the Inbred on eBay for so cheep with a fork...shopped more...ended up with a Jabber and no regrets. Well, other than the fork...I would re-buy the frame with maybe the Niner Reynolds fork. The ODIS is meh. One opinion though.

I would suggest doing whatever you can to get a set of handbuilt wheels with Stans rims so you can easily run tubeless across multiple tire choices. I run tubes on fat (2.4ish) tires with wide rims sometimes but for regular narrower trail stuff nothing like tubeless on a rigid bike. Bontrager as a second choice. Maybe you are doing front sus but tubeless is still where it's at.

BB7s are a tad heavy but a no-brainer for an easy to use, reliable product. For SS cranks I would buy the half-price Shimano LX's off Jenson and put on a Surly ring.
