A quick comment about the Bitex hubs. I took them apart today for cleaning and packed the freehub with fresh Dumonde Tech freehub grease. It’s amazing how quiet it is now. Seriously, awesomely quiet.

I do the same with the Bitex hub on my singlespeed and as you say it is very quite. I had to get a bell so that I could let hikers and slower riders that I am behind them.

Would love to make my Bitex hubs a little quieter. Is the process difficult?

Very easy. Don’t even need to remove the cassette from the freehub. You need two spanners to loosen the end cap that threads on to the axle, rags to clean the old grease, and the new grease. That is it.
Be sure to put blue loctite on the end caps. They have a habit of coming loose which then causes the axle to get scored then breaking. You also don't want to over tighten the end caps which will cause the bearings to bind, just snug them, which is also why you want the loctite.

Well, my wheels came, ordered on January 27 and arrived today so just over 3 weeks total. The claimed weight on the tags is less than I thought it would be, they tags are 760g/884g, was expecting them to come in over 1700g for the set. I was stupid enough not to add the rim tape and valves so have a bit of work to do to set them up for spring.

Nice, 3 weeks is a super quick turnaround time.

How are the 27AL (strong extra light) rim riders going? Are they proving to be strong enough?
I have about 1000 miles of rough, rocky terrain on these and have never trued them:

Coating Free Asymmetric 27mm inner width XC Trail shallow carbon wheelset
- Series: Extralight
- Finish: Matte
- Weave: UD
- Hub Type: DT SWISS 240 EXP
- Spoke Count: 28H/28H

Not the rim you are asking about, but glad you asked because I didn't know the 27AL existed.

A related question: How much do riders on the Extralights weigh? I'm 85 kg geared up and not sure if that's too close to the 95 kg limit.
The extra strong (new 27mm) rims have a weight limit of 120kg.

I'm similar to you, and if you include the bike weight as well more like 90-95kg. That's why I've been looking at rims with 120kg limits. I think you'd be ok on 95kg rims if you weren't paying for them, or if your trails were pretty smooth. That's only one opinion/guess though.

Well, after a year and a half of bashing the crap out of my wheels, my rear finally took a big enough hit and said no more.. This was entirely my fault as I’ve run the same line before and took a hard rim strike. It’s a high speed section with a nice pointy rock at the bottom before the uphill. I usually just bomb it and pray. Today it hit so hard I stopped at the top and checked my wheels for cracks. Didn’t see any so I kept riding. Hit a jump line with 3-4’ hits. Then back on the climb I noticed a significant wobble on the rear and saw it.

Not catastrophic. I rode the 5-6 miles home gingerly and made it no issue. Still no sealant loss. Will see if I can get a crash discount and replace. These were 30id AM layup on Conti Enduro tires at 28psi. No inserts.

I just put in an order for a set of M-i34AS rims. I went with Premium AM coating-free UD. I have the same configuration in my M-i30AS wheels and I think it looks great. Going to build up a wheelset with some i9 hubs for my Ripmo.

FWIW: The New Years “CNY23“ 15% off code still works. It basically covers the EMS shipping fee.

Thanks dude! I used this code for my replacement. Still works!

Anyone else in the USA have issues with their order getting stuck in customs (or somewhere)? UPS tracking has been saying for over a week that my wheels are at the JUSDA supply chain depot in CA and haven't been given to UPS. Emailed BTLOS and they said it's at the airport waiting for customs clearance. Something like this happened with my Deviate frame coming from Scotland, and it turned out there was some form that needed to be filled out. Of course when I called UPS they didn't know anything about that and said the shipper still needs to give them the package. UGH! Who do I need to yell at to get my wheels?!
