I'm slapping together a bike for a friend, and am using an old Shimano Altus crankset. The bottom bracket it used was a 68mm shell, and I measured the tapered spindle with calipers at 116.2mm. Is that a wierd size, or has anyone heard of it?

Here's the catch- I need a 73mm shell for the new frame, and the closest tapered spindle lengths I could find are 115mm and 118mm. How much difference will it make, and should I go with the shorter 115, or err on the longer side with 118?

The original BB is stamped "116" so I assume the .2mm is just bad quality control. But can I use a 115mm, or go with a 118?
Measure the chainline and calculate which will work best. Also make sure if you go shorter there are no crank interference issues.
