Beginners Mistake. Could've had a Full S rather than a hardtail.

Hello all,
I hope this helps out someone else from not making the same mistake.
I purchased a hard tail Aluminum bike with aggressive enduro geometry. The bike is excellent for an advanced rider that knows all the basics to safely drop, jump, and ride smoothly over the harsh stuff. But... to a beginner or intermediate, I was advised to be very careful form the manufacture and rightly so. I was planning on swapping out the frame for a Chromoley frame that can take more abuse than aluminum, but the cost for a chromoly is 1/3 in to buying a full suspension bike. I should have purchased a full suspension first but was carried away by all the tutorials and youtube mtb videos showing pros shredding with a hard tail. Reality is a full suspension bike can make the difference between a crash or no crash - so I have been told.

So to all you seasoned mtbr's your advice can help me and any one of us who are beginners.
Should I forget about the chromoly frame swap and just get a full Suspension or get a chromo bike and learn to ride better while taking more abuse?
Thank you again.

If I'm being candid, the only bikes I would care to have right now would be the following: 120mm full suspension trail, dual-chainring gravel bike, 26"/24" rigid dirt jumper, 20" BMX race. That's it. I would happily sell everything else.

Having ridden 30 years since I was 14, and as far as "progressing" my mountain bike riding, I would be happy to ride a single-black trail to 80%-90% speed/skill of the trail builder's intention. That would include being able to look at any technical obstacle on any XC World Cup course and say "yes, I can ride that at the same speed." Anything bigger/faster has a much higher risk vs. reward in my book.

Then again, it took several dozen bikes to get to where I am today, and the only way you can find out for yourself is to go and ride/buy more bikes! :D

Hello All, Thank you for all your advice, Much appreciated! I decided to stick with the hardtail but I purchased a different frame. I went form aluminum to Chromoly frame. For those interested I looked at a few great bike manufactures but the most available and at a discounted price was Stanton. I purchased the Switch9er 4130/Reynolds 525 model. I still have my 1990 chromo and steel really is a treat and I love the flex. Thank you to all!;)(y)👊
