Just found some old school bear trap pedals on flea bay, used to love them, feet would never slip off guaranteed. If they did though there would be blood !
Anyways any of you guys still using them ? Think I'm gonna get rid of my platforms and get me some for my Cannondale !

I have seen some from Wellgo/Xpedo, but the cage seemed small. I had some until about 1997 when I gave them away after going clipless. It would be interesting to compare them to the current platforms, see if there is step back, an improvement, or no real difference.

My first bike 30 years ago came with bear traps, foot would always slip off guaranteed! They were the whole reason I started using toe clips.

A decent platform pedal seems miles ahead of the old "bear traps" to me but you should use whatever works better for you. If your feet are slipping on either one you're doing something wrong IMO.

filthy muddy trails full of roots an shizzle, i find my feet constantly slipping on my v8"s, apart from losing blood (lol) i never had a problem with bear traps. and after stumbling across them again am seriously thinking of going back to them. a big change from the norm as well.VP BEAR TRAP MOUNTAIN BIKE PEDALS BMX/MTB OLD SCHOOL,ORANGE | eBay

I rode these pedals on BMX bikes and they slipped all the time and turned your shins to hamburger. Rose colored goggles maybe?

If the design was good, don't you think it would have stuck around? At very least some fringe old school users?

We're not talking about a shift in an entire standard. Anyone at anytime could have bought those pedals and slapped them on a mountain bike. I'm thinking the reason no one has seen those pedals on a mountain bike in 20 years is because they don't work very well.

If you're so convinced just buy them already. To each his own just get out and ride.

I've found with platforms that the shoe is AT LEAST as important as the pedal. If I had to choose between them, I'd put my money into shoes and get cheaper pedals. It's been a very long time since I rode with bear traps and I really don't remember if I had trouble with them but I know I wasn't wearing good quality skate shoes back then.
