If that were true it could open the door for somebody to manufacture aftermarket spindles. Then maybe they could make a 179mm... But I think the fact that Sram Dub won't fit the larger spacing increased the demand for the RaceFace cranks.
 
The spindle of a SRAM FAT4 is the same length as a FAT5. The "CL" being referred to in the diagram is the distance from frame center to the chainline. Note that CL shows a 10mm difference in chainline between the two (FAT4 66.5mm vs FAT5 76.5mm). The FAT4 has a +6mm offset chainring, the FAT5 has a -4mm offset. That is your 10mm difference. Also, regarding Race Face, I just bought 2 of the 190mm spindles directly from them.
 
You guys got me all paranoid that I better pick up a spare just in case they quit making them. Race Face has them up on their website now....but out of stock. They do have them in stock on their Canadian site...but it says they will not ship to the US.

That you’re beating a dead horse?
It just does not make any sense to me that they would sell two cranks, with two different names, that only differ in a replaceable chainring and their diagram shows a longer distance to the chainring from centerline between the two, clearly. The engineer in me I guess. I'll cease and desist. I really don't care I will never buy one.

I recently received 2 of them directly from Race Face. Guess I got lucky and checked the link not long after they posted them.
