Anyone upgrade their DT 370 to Ratchet? Confused on what kit to get and where you can actually order them.

I'm trying to help a friend who had old pawl and spring 18t 370 setup on his 1900 wheelset. I gathered that he had to get a kit that comes with a new free hub driver, 2 ratchets, springs, grease, and seal(s). What's confusing is the exact part number needed and who actually has it for sale. I see several versions of the kit on DT Swiss website but not rear clear on which one to choose. I would like him to get the 36t option w/XD driver. Does someone have a source of someone selling the kit in 36t? Is this the right part# HXYXXX00N7684S

Was going to suggest 54t upgrade but it gets so expensive with the 2 tools, bearing replacement at the time, and another $100+ kit, you may as well buy a new wheel.

I've been lusting after the 54t upgrade for the 240 on my cross bike but wasn't willing to throw down the cash. Separately, I bought a cheap wheel set with DT350s to go on a bike I'm selling and, lo and behold, they had the 54t ratchets in them! Not ashamed to say I swapped those over into the wheel set I'm keeping.

There is an HG, Microspline, and XD conversion kit, and each one comes in steel and alu (the freehub body itself) so you have 6 versions in total. On this site it's pretty clear which one is which part number, maybe it will help?

Not sure if it's a stupid suggestion, but do you really need the tool to install the ratchet ring in the hub? Obviously you need the other tool to remove the old ring. But in the olden days when I installed freewheels, I remember that sometimes I just tightened them down by hand, and when I went out on the first ride I could feel the freewheel tighten more as I pedalled hard. Wouldn't that work here? 🙃

Thank you. That site breaks it down really well. I can see what part numbers to choose from but it seems they are all 18t versions. I think there is also a kit that will come with a 36t. That would be ideal as 18t would be the same engagement that he has now with the 3 pawl design. No benefit to upgrade. And, you're right; he prob won't need the install tool initially, but I would like to have the tool for future bearing replacements. You have to remove that ring to get to the inner bearing. Maybe we can split the cost.
