Hey all,
I have a 2017 Sync’r with 32h Diamondback SL7 double wall rims. Has anyone successfully converted these to tubeless?

How do you know what width tape to use? Do you just tape over where the spokes come thru or up the wall where the tire seats too?

I found a YouTube video showing someone converting a double wall rim to tubeless and it showed they had to drill out one inner wall of the rim to install the new tubeless valve stem but never showed what stem they used. Are they universal?

Any help is appreciated!

Yeah I've o.odone it. I used Gorilla tape, and just tore the tape to match the width of the inner rim. It was very easy and haven't had an issue on it. Now, getting the tires to seat can be another issue altogether :)

I followed these videos:

Absolutely what this guy said. Do not drill, no need. You can also buy gorilla tape at 1" width so you dont have to rip to match.

I have (had until ... the incident) those same wheels. I had to get new tires to make it work though, so holding off until you need tires is a good choice.
The tires I bought are Kenda Nevegal x pro and I have zero issues with them rolling tubeless.

I just recently went tubeless on some diamondback 32h SL7 double wall rims. The tires I went with was MAXXIS aggressor 29x3 and a MAXXIS icon at 29x2. I used regular grey duct tape and cut it as the same width as the rim, the tighter and cleaner fit you have the better, you want good contact between the duct tape and rim surface. I had issues where the rim is manufactured together from the factory as I explain more below. I made sure the tape went over lines and actually poked out of the tire ever so slightly and this fixed the issue I'm about to talk about. There's a split in the rim with a small line barely visible that was leaking air I found this by using soapy water and spraying anywhere I think it might be leaking. After enough trial and error I'm holding air. So it is possible yes, is it easy no, worth it? possibly over the cost of some tubeless rim setups.
