I will agree that the pictures on the Ibex website need to be improved. I mean, just look at the difference:

Atlas Pro Picture in IBEXBIKES.COM

https://www.ibexbikes.com/images/Bikes/2007/ATLAS-PRO-1200.jpg

The bike looks bland, and not that appealing. But if they got better pictures, it'd look like this:

More examples:

Asta Compx7

Looks okay, not so amazing

100x better in a real life picture though:

Now, this Ibex550 picture is blurry; unshiny; and IMO even makes the bike look a bit dated:

But then there's the RL picture:

seriously.. thanks to IBEX'ers you get a crapload of nice bike porn anyways...

The online pictures are fine, they save money by not making their site fancy.
I think the site is simple, but it's effective and not too warehousey ( like bikesdirect)
or too overly cheesy. Its simple, utilitarian, etc.

Thank you for that. No, our site is not the fanciest one out there. If we were selling web design services that might be more important. However, our focus is on making the site user friendly and easy to navigate. I count nine different approaches one may take from the Homepage to get to the various bike models. The idea is that we try to make our site intuitive no matter how one's usual approach to site navigation manifests itself. We also like it to load nicely... no Flash, no irritating intro page... just the facts, Sgt. Friday!

well, checked out the newstand for Dirt Rag but it was still

issue # 128 - no Atlas article. Anyone know when that will be coming out??? and yes, I'm the OP, I haven't added much to the discussions but I have read over the entire thread and appreciate most of the comments.

Unless you can be everywhere.. well I guess we'll have to wait a few decades huh?

Small business is small business, thats just the fact. Can't change it.
"… you ignorant ****!"

Your comment about small business is truly idiotic. Some of those "small companies" have some of the best & most innovative products with excellent customer service at a very high level. Let me name a few that I've dealt with:

Hopey
Turner
Hadley
Go-Ride

I'm going to buck the popular trend; IMHO, the single most important thing the internet has done in the past decade is allowing us to research all kind of subjects / products. Along the same vein, talking to others about their experiences has been a huge help, too. Now, with that said, you do not always have to experience the product, first-hand, before making an informed decision on whether it will work for you.
Every bike / frame, and a vast majority of the components, I use were purchased without ever seeing or using them in person. It is very-very rare I'm disappointed with my purchases.

(BTW, I have no affiliation with Ibex and never heard of them before this week. But, they do sound like a good company, at least customer service-wise.)

wow way to take it over the edge...
I was simply saying that IBEX was a small business and it will take a long time before they have the capacity to have demo bikes everywhere in the world.

and I hope they don't, it will probably increase their prices and right now I'm waitin' for their 2008 models..

There are some folks who keep misinterpreting what I have wrote here and use it as arguments to steer the readers to one direction only or to beef up their egos (post-purchase syndrome) so I have decided to remove all what I have said here and no longer participate in any discussions where these people are likely to participate.

So the only one criticizing the web design is a web designer!
I could care less about fancy web sites, they just load more crap and waste bandwidth.
And most potential Ibex shoppers care about getting the most bike for their money, not flash animations and anal designs.

5) Track record

By the way, like I said
Shrewd = sharp, keen
ie. looking past the cover, looking deeper, analyzing more than the POTATO CHIP BAG =)

a) I am not a web designer.
b) since when "fancy" web sites waste bandwidth? and if there is such a thing then it is you.
c) no one is asking for flash animation
d) I thought I am doing IBEX a favor but no coz if they do it "right" they would loose these "shrewd" buyers.

Most importantly since when a low volume production saves money? For saving go to WalMart, seriously.

What you all IBEX fans want to see but are afraid to ask is a high volume production, good packaging including information availability, good service, reliability, performance, track record of success and availability in LBS.

You no need to prove me anything to pump up your own ego after the purchase. Don't worry it is a human nature to rave about the purchase you made otherwise you would get depressed, stop riding and got fat. We do not want that so keep writing.

:madman:
Low volume production never saved money.. in fact IBEX is trying to pump up production because many of their models (Alpine series; Trophy Pro) sold out mid-year (or even a month or 2 before now).

P.S.

Taikuodo nor I own an IBEX bicycle. We just know a good deal when we see one.

Also, I don't think the Ibex web design is bad, I was simply pointing out that ibexbikes.com could be even more awesome with super-high quality pictures, but of course that'd probably bring up costs :p

This thread has gone to pot....

Deciding on a bike based on the quality of their web page has got to be the shallowest thing I've ever heard. You are a "poser" in every way imaginable.

This thread should be closed already. :madman: Instead of giving the OP information, you are bickering back and forth. I own an IBEX bike and I love it. Will I shove it down this guys throat? No, I will not. Its not my problem! I heard some pretty stupid stuff coming from a whole lot of "riders." Bikes are best when the manufactuer has a cool website. Where's my cool name on the downtube? Oh, nobody brought up what pro rides which bike. Oh Jack, you better go get some pro racer, or your bikes won't be cool. Cool is for posers!! Maybe if you guys rode more than took pictures with your bikes, you would have given better feedback.
Not to mention the fact that this guy is a beginner looking at an AM bike. If he never did any MTB riding, why go blow a G plus on a new bike? Shouldn't he be looking at an XC FS at best? The Op has asked me as well about an IH warrior, which is similiar to an atlas and heckler. Why wasn't that bike mentioned here? Its a single pivot too.
I am also sick of hearing about where a bike is built. Let's face it, everything is being outsourced in the U.S. I remember my first GT had "made in the USA." Now most bikes state, "Designed in the US. Made in taiwan." I promised myself I wouldn't cry!!! :cryin: Seriously, if you have nothing good to say, say nothing.

I have ridding dogonfr's Atlas

UNBIASED!!!!!

I dont own one.

Now granted when I rode it last it has super narrow bars, and the suspension wasnt set up for me. But it still felt really really good. Right from the get go its super comfy. If I were to consider buying an AM bike I'd seriously look at the Atlas.

Cons: you cant test ride it, you have to assemble it yourself ( I know what a drag...)

Pro's: Great customer service, really good quality, cheap cheap cheap!(in a good way)

:D maybe if dogonfr let me have the bike for a week. I could give an in depth UNBIASED review. :D
