Been riding the silica version for about 6 months, I did a review in general discussion a while back. Great all around tire very grippy rubber and the ramped knobbies give good grip yet are spaced wide enough to not clog in most mud. I got about 650 miles on the rear before the knobbies lost 50% making them more of a XC tire now. I did not not rip the sidewall or loose a knobby so they are durable but not on the level of a DH tire. Sidewall was average but I'm sure the UST version might be better since they have an extra layer of rubber i there. If you ride variable conditions with rock, loose over hardpack, roots and even sand this is a good choice, the rear tire pattern also makes a good front tire in softer conditions. They are a bit pricey and last about average for a tire but worth it for the performance.

Love Them

I got the NBX UST 2.3 front tire a few weeks ago and love it, I'm using a 2.1 WTB Velociraptor in the rear without a tube. I rode the tire combo on a great trail here in So Cal (San Juan) and found the traction increadable compared to my 2.35 WTB Mutanoraptor (or what ever it's called). The trail was really dry and rutted in many climbing sections. I found the tire would just claw its way right up and out of the rut. Not sure how well it will do on a muddy trail, it hasn't rained in months.

Don't get the UST

I had a 2.3 UST - it leaked so much that I needed to stop and pump it up 3 times/hr of riding. It is a great tire but that much air loss is unacceptable. It has happened quite a few others around here too - do a search.

Go for the regular 2.3 with stans.

Best $ I've spent on the bike yet.. these tires rock. I've only got a month on them, but here in upstate NY they roll over the roots, rocks & mud like nothing. I'm running non-UST's and seem to recall reading somewhere that Nokian was not high on Stan's compatibility list, but I don't have much experience there. Can't speak to treadlife yet, but in my opinion the weight tradeoff is worth it.

what's the difference between UST and regular?

I just bought a nbx regular 2,3 at my LBS, it was on sale for 20 $
I thought I was buying a xc tire but when I got home and went to nokian website, it says it's a freeride tire.
will it do good as a front xc tire ?
also, Should I not even think about asphalt because I have do do a bit do get to the trails ?

thanks

I tried the nbx 2.3 yesterday for a half day in kingdom trails vermont and I really like how the tire handled in the front, I felt really confident with it. 2.3 is perfect it's the best front tire I ever tried so far period

Now I need a rear tire

Any suggestions, I want something in the range of 2,1

The NBX 2.3 is a great all-round XC/trail tire - front and rear. There is a 2.1 version if the 2.3 will not fit in the rear.

thanks

Thanks, it's not because the 2.3 will not fit, it's because I wanted a smaller tire in the rear
and I have heard that the nokian wear out pretty fast, espacially in the rear

However, I just bought a panaracer firexc pro 2.1 for the rear
I hope it will do well, I haven't installed it yet but it looks a little small

I'm specifically interested in the 2.3 UST version. It seems to be very popular here in New
England. It's a pretty heavy tire but I'm willing to buy it if it's stiff, tough, and has good traction.
I was wondering when someone would ask about this tire. Haven't seen any decent reviews of it so far. Keep the comments coming!

Just got a pair...

and put them on my Heckler. I live in CO and have three rides on them - Apex, Aldefer/Three Sisters and Kenosha Pass to Georgia Pass. Previous tires were Conti Vertical Pro UST.

Impressions so far:

noticeably heavier & slower rolling than the Vertical Pro's
killer traction on hardpack & loose rock - climbing, cornering & descending
looks, feels & rides more like a very light DH tire than a cross country/trail tire
not a true 2.3, more like 2.2
a little sketchy on roots & when its wet out (could be that they are still new)
did well at Kenosha until it rained - soft forest floor, pine needles, rocks, roots, etc.
burly side wall & harder to get on the rim than the Vertical Pro's
bead sealed without any problem & they do not appear to be leaking air
