Active Junky and Ibis

Those of you that have ordered through a web retailer through active junky has anyone actually see the cash back in their account? I am being told by multiple places that they have an agreement with certain brands (ibis being one) that will not participate in the active junky promotion and therefore it will not work when ordering. If this is true it totally bums me out as I sold my intense just to buy back into ibis with the HD3 and yes, it's only a few hundred bucks... but that's all as I was banking on the active junky cash back etc...

If it helps, I emailed Active Junkie before ordering a Pike from Backcountry a few weeks ago.
It was my first time using AJ and wanted to make sure I'd get the discount, so I asked if there were any exemptions to the 12% off if you used AJ/Backcountry.
The reply: Absolutely zero. Everything qualifies, I was told.

Jenson has AJ cash back plus a 250 gift card back for future purhases... but when talking to them.on the phone (jenson) they claim its one or the other.. but Ive gone all the way to credit card info etc.. and both are still in cart... has anyone got that deal through jenson to work with cash back from AJ?

Based on the sentence below in AJ's terms and conditions I believe it is very possible that you could purchase something that may not be in AJ's database, but they'd still ultimately withhold payment from you down the road after they reconcile with a vendor like Jenson. I don't think having it in your cart or getting it to credit card is an indication of anything. AJ still gets your order number from Jenson and AJ doesn't give you a dime until Jenson pays them for your specific order number. If Jenson says they won't pay AJ for your specific order AND give you a $250 gift card I'd expect that, but still try it and be happy if you end up getting both. Getting anything off a frame in this much demand is nice at the end of the day.

Earning Cash Back

It's pretty easy to earn Cash Back. You find what you want on the AJ site, and by clicking from ActiveJunky.com to one of our affiliate websites, AJ can trace your purchase and give you cash money. The exact amount of Cash Back that you earn depends on each product that you purchase, and AJ will notify you of how much each product is worth in terms of Cash Back. Be aware that your Cash Back amount is based on your net purchase. This excludes tax, fees, shipping, gift-wrapping, and warranties. Some of our partners exclude products from the Cash Back Program and AJ will do its best to update its databases accordingly. In order to earn Cash Back you must complete your purchase directly after clicking from AJ. If you visit other sites in between or are not signed into AJ when making your purchase, AJ might not be able to trace your activity and therefore will not award you Cash Back. Make sure your "cookies" are enabled before making purchases; it is the tool that allows AJ to identify and attribute your purchase to your Member account. In order to be eligible to receive a cash back payment, you must earn at least $5 worth of Cash Back. Your balance will remain in your account until you reach this amount

I got an email from AJ last night about Ibis frames and bikes. Jenson is the only retailer that will not honor the cash back on Ibis. CC and BC will.

The catch is this. You have to enter the purchase yourself and submit the order online yourself. You can not place the order over phone or by chat, or AJ loses tracking of the order and you will not get the cash back.

Has anyone asked CC or Jenson for a 10% discount to place an order over the phone or internet? I would think that if you mention you are going to use AJ to get 10% off they would match the 10% right then to keep you from using it. This is knowing that Jenson doesn't discount Ibis frames so assume I'm talking about every other part.

So to make sure I understand you, on a $3,000 frame you would get $150 off and $150 store credit?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to go about buying a $6,000 custom build bike through CC. The frame discount might be iffy but there is another $3,000 worth of components that would work through AJ and if you build the bike over the phone then you can't get the AJ discount on any of it. If CC could offer 10% off a $6,000 build then no need to use AJ.

Slightly off topic - will most LBS's let you customize the build as much as CC or BC? I want to support the local shop but that entails customizing almost every component... and losing the 10% through AJ. Also, if they do let you customize do they usually charge wholesale for the components?

Related - someone also mentioned LBS granting or matching 10% discount? Anyone experience this with buying a bike at a shop? I always thought they were pretty firm in their prices.

All depends on the bike shop and sometimes your relationship with them, I'm a good customer and I always get 10% off, don't even have to ask for it, sometimes if the item has a very small margin I will not get it though. Does not hurt to ask, worse thing that can happen is they will say no.

I got about 15% off going through competitive cyclist. I had to call because they didnt have the db inline listed. They gave me the AJ deal with store credit so I could use it toward my build (i bought frame only). But, active junky doesnt care how you pay for it.. so even with store credit you log in through AJ and get cash back on your store credit! Almost like cheating but it worked an Dan over at CC was really good to work with and my LBS who doesnt sell ibis helped me build it up

AJ's terms for cashback at Jenson and Backcountry specifically exclude Ibis and Yeti products. What's unclear about that?

The cashback system was a way to get around the dealers who enforce minimum prices on their products. REI started it with a 10% dividend at the end of the year, and other retailers like Jenson and Backcountry pushed that model with cashback. But, when some manufacturers found out about the cashback discounting of their products, they clamped down. Guess how the manufacturers found out about the cashback system?
