I thought we should have a thread that concentrates on the 5010 V3. Would love to have anyone that has done a demo, or early purchase give your thoughts on the bike.

I owned a 5010 V2 and thought the bike was pretty damn good! The one thing that the 5010 V2 was for me was a bike that was all about business. It went to work every time I rode it and handled it’s business like a pro!

While the 5010 V2 was all about laser sharp handling, effecient pedaling, and great climbing, sometimes I wanted a bike that had a little more playful, forgiving attitude. The 5010 V3 with it’s redesigned geo, and ability to take up to 150mm fork has me thinking these changes are going to give it that more forgiving, less business like ride.

Please share your builds, reviews, thoughts, pics or anything else about the bike.

The rear triangle on the Santa Cruz C carbon has a history of braking. Frame is solid, rear triangle not so much. I have what looks like a scratch on mine. It's on the inside and I've been running 2.8 wheels so it may have been a rock stuck to the tire. It's a straight line so it has me worried.

I'm purchasing a 5010... It's between the V2 and v3 (... 2018 or 2019) the feature I want most is the flip chip.
My question is if I find a good deal on a v2 can I retrofit just the flip chip bracket area??
I would call or email Santa Cruz but I believe they are in the business of selling things and just try sell me a new frame.

I just got a Medium 5010 S+ over the weekend. Upgraded rims to Reynolds Carbon. It was either rims or a 36 fork. Opted for better rims..

Assembling on my own. Thanks for the notes. I am pretty mechanical but its been a while since I built a bike. Anything else I should know?

I did not really pay attention to the difference of Carbon C vs Carbon CC, because I could not spend that much anyway. I can't find an explanation on the website for the difference. I see a weight difference. Is the CC stronger and a better Carbon than the C?

****Found my Answer on line. Just as strong but lighter.

If you can find any 2018 santa cruz bikes in stock, they should be about 30% off right now. My son bought a 2018 Bronson r build for $2250. Before tax. One of our local santa cruz dealers does no tax on bikes around Feburary each year, we pay about 9% tax in this state so its a noticible savings. Check with your local dealer and ask.😁

That seems like the sweet spot for bigger tires. I'm running 2.3 on my pivot and plan on going to 2.5, 2.4 minions with this 5010 build. As much as I'd like to try the 2.6 I'm old school and still dragging myself into the fatter tire world.

Santa Cruz warranteed my V1 5010C frame this past fall, and I upgraded to a 2019 V3 CC. Unfortunately, it came without a rear shock. I'm almost done building it up with all sorts of fun new shiny stuff, so am having trouble coming to terms with moving my old, beat DPS shock over to the new bike. I'm not super psyched to shell out full retail for a new Fox Float Factory DPX2 and am wondering if there are any other rear shock options I should be looking at for the bike. Oh, and if anyone has a DPX2 210x50 takeoff they want to sell, please let me know. :)

malcontent, don't pay for a new DPX2. Hunt around for a used shock use it till it dies, then rebuild it and get a custom tune if you have the cash. Or wait for a sale on a DVO Topaz or another shock brand. Fox doesn't go on sale as often but they sometimes discount their shocks.

I guess I should be more careful when writing to this “friendly” crowd. I’m surprised at how much spare time some of you have, that you’re actually available to post a stupid reply rather than help a fellow rider or just dismiss my inquiry. In any event, I was looking for comments on personal experience when riding a 5010 with different travel lengths.

I’m anxious to read some of your creative responses!!!

Your mom?

But really, I built mine with a 140mm fork instead of a 130mm fork. I wanted a slightly slacker hta, and didn't mind a slightly higher bb. I run it in low, and the hta is 65.77 instead of 66.2, and the bb is 13.12 (still nicely low) instead of 12.99. This was all based on https://bikegeo.muha.cc/

I built it with a 140mm fork based on those numbers. I didn't spend enough time on the demo to really say whether it makes a huge difference, but I like doing steep downs and rollers, and didn't really want a hta > 66 deg.

Not sure what you meant by the "your mom?" comment but thanks for sharing your opinion/experience. I have a Bronson V3 with 170mm for all-mountain/enduro so I'm looking for something more trail oriented that can still handle the "fun stuff" but that isn't too uncomfortable for long distances. I plan on putting Reserve 30s with 2.5 front and 2.3 in the back, with a 780mm handlebar.

I want to change the frame of my V2 with the new one.....
Well, it's not possible, because I live in Italy and Focus Italy imports only complete bicycles.
obviously in the rest of Europe it is not like that ....
so if I want a new V3 I should sell the excellent components that I have selected and bring a new complete bike by spending a folly.
really a good business choice!

What did everyone change first on their 5010 v3? I am going to change the suspension to Kashima just to give the dark gray frame some life.

I got the v3 S+ build C. It comes stock with Minion DHF 2.6 and Rekon 2.6 in the rear, now I don't know much about mtb tires but when it comes to road bikes they always come with crappy ones. I also would like to get single finger brake levers maybe from Magura. Other than that not sure what else I should change if anything.

I made one change to my CC frame purchase before I received it. It took my most persuasive email to SC to make it happen, but by special request I had them ship my CC frame with DPX2 Performance Elite instead of the DPX2 Float Factory Kashima. So far as I could tell the coating was largely pointless, and I like black better. I then matched it up with the aforementioned 140mm 34 Performance Elite and was sure to put a stealthy Bike Yoke Revive dropper on it.
