I thought we should have a thread that concentrates on the 5010 V3. Would love to have anyone that has done a demo, or early purchase give your thoughts on the bike.

I owned a 5010 V2 and thought the bike was pretty damn good! The one thing that the 5010 V2 was for me was a bike that was all about business. It went to work every time I rode it and handled it’s business like a pro!

While the 5010 V2 was all about laser sharp handling, effecient pedaling, and great climbing, sometimes I wanted a bike that had a little more playful, forgiving attitude. The 5010 V3 with it’s redesigned geo, and ability to take up to 150mm fork has me thinking these changes are going to give it that more forgiving, less business like ride.

Please share your builds, reviews, thoughts, pics or anything else about the bike.

Curious for those that recently bought a 5010 or own an older model did you ever consider the "Bronson" as an alternative option? I like the idea of a shorter travel aggressive bike with plus tires and am thinking the travel is fine for 90% of the riding I will ever do here in Socal minus a few secret trails or Park stuff which I don't really do anyways.

Cheers!

These photos don't do justice to the terrain, but a full weekend of this and the 5010 was at home. Slow, steeeeep, tech. Lots of drops. Big chunk.

Running the Fox 34 at 140mm with Luftkappe. The Luftkappe was the real deal on the steeps, it absorbs terrain better and stays higher in the midstroke, I just need more high speed chunk experience to have a full opinion.

I also moved up to the next sized spacer in the DPX2 which has a better bottom feel.

Yes, please write up a comparison when you get a chance. Did you have a chance to compare the two stock before the fork upgrade?

I'm super curious as to your comparative experience. They seem like different rides to me, and I've continued to go back and forth in my mind about it. I'm all ears to what you've noticed. I know at the factory they told me they felt the new bronson was a much more track and drive kind of ride and much less poppy so to speak compared to the 5010. They even said more so than the HTLT. Curious if that fits your experience.

OK, I thought I'd post a few thoughts on the 5010V3.

I've been riding SC since getting a Bullit way back, then a Heckler, Blur TRa, 5010 V2 and now a 5010 V3.

All have been a large and have been built up from scratch.

I'm 6ft 1 and around 220lbs kitted up.

The 5010v2 was ran for almost three years. Pretty much out every week in any weather here in the UK. It was built up with a set of 36's set at 140 (Fit4) and a X2 shock. It rode really wel, particularly with the suspension upgrade. A set of 34's and stock float DPS didn't do the frame justicel. Size was OK, or so I thought.

The 5010v3 has been built in the same was with the same make/model of parts if not the actual same ones. 36's upfront with a set of 2019 Fox 36's (Grip2) set at 140.

It's longer and I feel I am sitting better on the bike. In it rather than on it. Mates who ride with me say it looks a better fit. This has contributed to the bike feeling really planted and secure. The old bike used to front end lift on steep climbs and pedal strikes were just part of the course. With the same wheels, tyres, cranks and pedals the V3 has had very very few strikes if any (It's in the high setting currently). I also seem to be cleaning a number of problems on the trail that I usually struggle with and I think this has a great deal to do with pedal clearance.

I'm finding that descents are still really great. Very planted and definitely more compose. I slowed the rebound on the shock down by one click from recommended and hit the sweet spot. The back end is definitely stiffer. There is a lot more bike around the bottom bracket and the addition of the drive side seat stay has made a huge difference.

I'm running a Zee bottle cage and using a camelbak podium when out on rides now. This wasn't something I was able to do with the V2. Shock clearance was simply too tight for even a standard podium

Did you compare the fit on the new 5010 in XL vs L?

Dialing in the sag on my V3 and I'm up to 225 psi and still measuring 35-40%ish on the DPX2. I'm 205# geared up. Cycled the shock thru 25% travel 10 times or so to equalize chambers. Granted I'm doing this alone, wall leaning and careful dismount and all, but what gives? What am I screwing up? Lay it on me, it's my first dually lol

I have a CC V3 with top end components and it's 30.5 w/pedals. My wheelset is heavy as I pulled it off my Nomad. I have SC Reserve rims that will be laced to the light weight onyx hubs when they come to production. If I chose different components 27 is easily doable. If you're going to make this more like an xc bike without a dropper, light wheels and light tires I can't see it being less than 24 but feel free to prove me wrong.

My build: 30.5 lbs w/ pedals
5010 V3 CC
Fox 36 140mm
Raceface next r cranks
SRAM xo1 eagle drivetrain
MRP AMG v2 carbon
Hope v4 brakes
Renthal stem
Renthal carbon bars
Bike yoke dropper
Power Arc saddle
Dt ex511 w/ onyx hubs
Minion 2.6 front
Rekon 2.6 rear
Crankbrothers mallet E

I live in Florida, a dropper is not something I really need. I have stan arches with Rekons 2.6 front and rear. XTR Brakes, AL frame, 140mm pike, xpeedo spry pedals, x01 11 speed,
SC carbon bars, renthal duo stem, easton ec90 seatpost, CB 3 saddle, x2 shock. I pretty much throw it off anything. But if I lived in the mountains I would have to add a couple of pounds for sure, more meat on the front and a dropper.

Can you fit a Fox DHX2 coil on the 5010 v3? I have the v3 in carbon , and I will be getting a new DHX2 coil from a parts trade. I was going to sell it, or trade it, but if it will fit, I may just try it. I do not use mounted water bottles , so water bottle clearance is not an issue.

do you think santa cruz have gone too far with the 170mm headtube on the xl frames?
v3 version should be like a v2 bronson with better seatangle?
still cant decide if i should buy a new 5010 or bronson frame. is the v3 5010 still as playful and snappy as v2? i am currently on a v2 bronson but i dont need all of its travel most of the time. v2 5010 was a bit too sketchy in gnarly terrain but with geo update and 140-150 fork on v3 it should be spot on.
