What does everyone think about 35 mm internal width rim with 2.5-2.6” tires up front? Current front rim is 29 mm and just found a crack in it🤪. I’m eyeing a 35 mm rim to replace it with that has the same ERD. Would be cheap and easy to just transfer the spokes over. Current front tire is conti argotal 2.6 and also want to try the kryptotal rear 2.6 up front. The argotal does not look like it would suffer from a 35 mm rim, would 2.5 tires?

you're going to square off your tires more than they are now. That's probably an improvement if you're looking for straight line traction and flotation, but it'll probably be a loss of cornering performance. You'll wind up with a sharper edge to the side knobs, and if you lean your bike into turns, you're going to find that sharper edge.

I'm perfectly happy with 30mm rims paired with 2.6" tires. and I have enough wiggle room to use 2.5 without too much change in tire performance. I don't think I'd like 35mm rims because I do lean my bike into corners and I really like having predictability through the range of lean angles I use.

Side note: is it worth it or necessary to get 1 mm longer spokes if new rim is 2 mm longer erd? Spokes fir current rim are 274 L 276 R, Spoke calculator recommends 275,and 277 for the slightly larger erd, which are not readily available and I don’t think I shoukd jump to 276 and 278 right?

Without the rim in hand, you can never be sure the erd is true. If it is, you should be fine. If in doubt, brass nipples tolerate short spokes better than aluminum.

Ive had good luck with about 9 WTB rims, erd has always been spot on, and thats what im looking at. Yeah I only use brass nipples.

I run 35mm inner rim width ENVE wheels on my eBike with 2.6 Maxxis and also 2.6 Vittoria Tires with equal success...

You'll be fine.
One of my bikes even has an i40 rim with a 2.6" tire (hardtail, rear wheel.)
When I was deciding to try the i40/2.6" combo, I figured it'd be crazy. But in fact it works great.
Personally I wouldn't hesitate to run a 2.6" tire on an i35 rim.

I am in this camp... One thing I could not deal with was excessively narrow rims with 2.3/5 tires and foldover if you looked at em crosseyed! Having to run tires with more than max psi
is a deal breaker at the wholesale level, period!

I can see doing 2.5/6 on i35's or i40's. I 40 would have a great profile with a 2.6 or a 3.0 giving a wider range of options. I 35, I would be very content to run 2.5's or 2.8's.

What the hell, we can run 90 psi in a tire rated for 35 psi max, can't we?!?!

After reading that wtb recommends 35 for 2.6-3.0 and that continental designed the new range for 30mm and realizing I can also reuse the spokes with the slightly larger erd 30mm I think I’m gonna stick with 30 and save the 60 grams
