According to two dealers I’ve talked to there’s an updated new element coming ~August 2021

Pricing and build kits stay the similar (except fork) and it’s going 130f 120r
Hta will be ~67

Weight of the c50 (slx build) ~26lbs

I’m coming off a Ripmo V2 which has been my favorite bike ever. The only reason I’m making the switch is because 90% of my rides are with my highschool daughter and/or NICA team. Almost finished up building my XL C70, wheels should be here next week. This bike fits amazing like my Ripmo but is super sporty. It’s feels a lot more efficient on the climbs and accelerates quicker out of the corners. I tried to push it hard through some higher speed chunk and definitely a lot more feedback, but all of this is to be expected. It feels like it’s willing to take it all on, it just takes more work to maintain the same speeds. Oh, and I’m a lot more sore the next day😂. Overall, I couldn’t be happier!

Hey All,

Someone asked for progression in all 4 Ride4 settings, so I've attached it. The Element is fairly progressive in all settings so I've found that maintaining a more linear air volume works better in tandem with those rate curves. Unfortunately we need to set the shock tunes up for a wide variety of rider weights, skill levels, and terrain ridden so having one perfect setup that satisfies all those needs is simply not possible. I recommend working with your local suspension tuner to adjust your shock tune to your personal needs.

On a side note, yes the Float X is a nice upgrade for riders that want to push the Element towards the trail category but this isn't suitable for all riders hence why we stick with the DPS shock. For local XC laps and short descents this seems to be the more balanced option.

Currently on my personal bike I'm alternating between a SIDLuxe / 2023 140mm Pike package and a Float DPS / 140m 34 GRIP2. Both offer that perfect blend of lightness and capability that seems to be the cornerstone of downcountry bikes. 26lbs as you see it here. Very similar to a C90 build for the most part, with the addition of CushCore XC installed in the rear, and 2.3 Minions (~740g / tire, but slower rolling).

@RMB-PM2 Thank you for sharing the progression per position - surprised to see it is that wide of a range (25-43%)... very cool

Sounds like an Ohlins TTX2 could work well!

Curious to know which settings you have landed on with your DPS - i.e. what LSC setting/pressure and if you ever use the mid/closed position

Threw some proper trail wheels on today (trail tires + rimpact inserts) and left the lightweight wheels at home. Completely blown away how fun it is on the rough stuff. Brings a new kind of excitement coming off a 170/160 travel bike on the same trails.

The little DPS sure does heat up - thought it might burn my leg lol. 220 PSI for 175 rider weight & LSC 1 was perfect in the rear though (y)

I am trying to find a short-travel 29er and the Element and Spur are at the top of my list. Shocking I know. I had an all day demo on a size L Spur X01 last weekend and loved it. It felt great. Climbing was fast, pedal bob was minimal, descending was so fun. I was able to bottom out the rear shock, but it didn't feel like a hard bump. I rode a size L Element C30 around my LBS last night and it was totally different than I expected. The pedal bob was terrible and it felt really cramped when seated. I know that an X01 to a C30 isn't a fair comparison, but there are no Elements above C30 available anywhere I can find.

I didn't have a chance to adjust the saddle as much as I would have liked, but it felt so different than the Spur despite the geometry seeming to be almost identical. If I had been able to raise the saddle and slide it back on the rails it would have fit somewhat better, but I still don't think it would have felt as good as the Spur. Has anyone who has ridden both noticed anything like this? Looking at the charts I can't see why this would be the case. Does .6* of seat tube angle really make that much difference? Maybe the listed geometry is wrong on one or both of them.

With regard to the suspension in the fully open and trail positions the bounce in the bike when pedaling what serious. The shock on the C30 doesn't have the sag marks on it, but I think it was set too soft. The fork was also really soft. Pinkbike says the Element climbs like a rocket, but it didn't feel like that would be the case for the bike I rode last night. I really want to like the Element and chalk this all up to bad setup, but other than adjusting the sag on the Spur it just worked. The Element didn't seem like it would ever be as good.

I guess my question is if you liked the Spur so much on demo, why not just get the Spur?
Thank you both.

That is where I am leaning, but with the recent price increase on the Spur the value equation definitely tilts to the Element. I could get a C50 Element for less than a Deore Spur, except that I can't get a C50 Element right now.

That’s fair. Personally I like my element more but both bikes are great. I had constant SID fork issues on the Spur, maybe those are fixed by now. I’ve had better reliability from Fox over RS suspension but that’s completely anecdotal.

Cockpit wise, if you could get the Spur to feel good there’s no reason the element fit would be any different. Like the RM account posted earlier, I now prefer ~10-15 psi over recommended on the Element for rear shock pressure.

I just wanted to add my suspension preference to the group. I started with the recommendations from Rocky Mountain which were really good. I am 175 geared up and with 200 PSI out back and six clicks of rebound it peddled very well and was very supportive under power. However, my local trails here in Utah have very fast and chunky sections that I had to slow down more than I wanted to. I sped up the rebound by four clicks and it made a world of difference in how active the rear end was through the chunk. It has slightly more pedal bob while climbing but the downhill, climbing traction, and overall suppleness is worth it to me.

This guy here: Rocky Mountain Element 2022

posted this graph from a German magazine.

Interesting - based on what I'd heard with the Altitude, I would have expected a little bit different result. On the altitude I thought position 3 was the most travel, which is also more progressive. On the Element this is the same as position 2 which should give the most travel if you're following the logic of the Altitude

Edit: on the Altitude, positions 3,6 & 9 give the most travel. This would correspond to positions 2 & 4 giving the most travel on the Element... I think

Okay then maybe the better question is if anyone has the four different leverage curves graphed somewhere. What's odd to me is I went from position four to three and I noticed the rear end felt less forgiving. It's not a drastic change in leverage rate but if I'm understanding correctly it could be a ~10mm difference in rear travel. Just trying to explain what I felt.

Hey all

just picked up a ‘22 element c50, I ordered it from a dealer who shipped it to my house. I noticed on the brake side inner rear dropout the hub caps interface right to raw carbon with no metal guide. Is this normal? Or is the bike missing apart in the drop out for the hub/axle interface. See picture

Sounds like some are having pivot bolts backing out? Should i blue thread lock all my pivot bolts? Anything else to check out. Hoping its in this week but i got a c50 in green coming. Have some i27 asymmetrical nexties laced to dt 240s from my last bike for it and ill run the rekons on those.

Going to prob get some minions for the stock wheels for some gnarlier trails.

last bike had a 70deg hta. This should be interesting

Yes, if you haven't already. I had the exact bolt shown in post #492 come loose during a ride a couple weeks ago. $8 bolt + $15 freight from rocky. 🙄, no Loctite on the threads on the bolts either side of the frame. I also had a nasty creek coming from the Ride 4 system that cleaning and re-greasing solved. Other than that, it's been an amazing bike.
