I just got a 2016 trek marlin 6. I am not planning on doing anything but riding it right now, but i would like to know my options for fork upgrades. I know people will say don't upgrade a $600 bike but I'm wondering what my options are if i decide later down the road the current forks Suntour XCT won't do what i need. I have read mixed opinions, some say the G2 geometry will make running 29s different and I've heard it won't change a noticeable amount. I also know my options are limited Wirth a 1 1/8" straight steerer vs a tapered steerer... Just want some opinions... The only lists I can find for this topic are from 2013ish and wondered if maybe anything had changed since then.

Thanks.

Ok... Another question.. Would I be better going that route or going with a rockshox 30 gold/silver? I've found quite a few new takeoffs on eBay for a 29er with disk brakes and straight stem... Hope I'm getting my nomenclature right here... I'm pretty new and still learning...

If you can find a Gold in the air version it's a good fork. 30mm stanchions.
The Raidon is 32mm and has a sealed oil damper for no maintenance. Guys have replaced the grease on the air side with oil and been happy.
You will keep this bike for one to two seasons most likely.

So you think after 1 or 2 seasons I will have outgrown the capabilities of this bike? If that's the case, should I just ride it and learn good technique then when it won't do what i need start shopping for a new bike? Or will the newer socks I'm looking at extend its usefulness?
