I always found that XTR chains shift the best, but I'd go through them like a hot knife through butter. They didn't last nearly as long as my KMC chains have lasted. Bottom line: Great chain, shifts well, but don't look to get much more than a few months out of one if you ride a lot.

From my experience, Shimano chains work well, but they wear out exceedingly fast. Go with KMC. I run them on all my bikes, from BMX, DJ, mountain, to road. Plus, they come in gold, for that extra sparkle.

shimano, kmc, sram all feel about the same to me on the trail. personally i would buy whatever is cheapest for a decent level (with chains i try to stick around the xt/ x9 level) and just buy your master link of choice.

My Trance came with a shimano chain, so that's what I've been keeping with, Jenson has the Shimano CN-HG94 MTB 10 Speed Chain cheeeeeep - can I use a sram link with these?

ive always used shimano but recently got a KMC gold light chain n i will never go back, i cannot believe how good it shifts, silent easy, light, i am now a KMC man, they are magic n leaves shimano for dead..

The only problem I have had with KMC chains is that you have to use a link. You cannot push out a pin and then push it back in for chain repair.

Next up for me will be KMC.

When I was at Sea Otter, I talked briefly with the KMC folks and I believe they mentioned something to the effect that the "other two" major chains are all made by KMC anyway.

understand where your coming from, but its actually no problem at all, where ever you carry your multi tool you carry a few spare links, they are dirt cheap, and it make the whole process of fixing your chain heaps easier.

Honestly until i used my new KMC i would never have believed a new chain could shift so much better n feel so much smoother, i have a X9LGOLD Titanium coated, but you can get them for the 10 speed, cheers:thumbsup:
