I am trying to convince myself to get the Enve AM, but common sense tells me I’m better off with ArchEx. It as wide, weighs the same, and a rather stiff rim.

Has anyone ridden both and is kind enough to offer insight?

Also, can anyone compare between Enve XC and ArchEx. The former is lighter but not as wide as the latter.

Thank you!

P.S.: I am 195 geared; light all mountain and XC; normally don't tend to destroy my rims.

I think the Arch EX rim I built this past spring has been light and stiff for me. It cost 74 and the Enve AM is 900 for the rim. I've only read reviews. They have been very positive. I think, cost aside, the Enve is the better rim and would make a fantastic front wheel/

What type of riding do you do , how much do you weigh and have you had issues destroying rims in the past?

I am 195 geared up seemed to dent every type of Stan rims I ever had. I tend to point it and plow rather than finesse. I switched to carbon rims and have not had an issue since. I've tried enve/edge, eastons and light bicycles. All have been bomb proof and I'll never go back to aluminum.

Im actually selling my edge/king wheels, but have not posted them here yet.

You can buy 10 Arch rims for 1 Enve rim and still have money left over.
You can use those leftover sheckels to buy a few pints, and once liberally basted you *might* be able to convince yourself that any of your 10 Arch rims can hold a candle to the stiffness or durability of the ENVE's.

But they can't, and once you're sober again you'll have to admit it.

Not that there'a anything wrong with the Arch rims--they are a great value for most of us.

For those that are OK spending more to get the bottom-line best rim on the planet, there is ENVE.

Mikesee, I know you have a lot of experience, so if you don't mind sharing: would you go with the XC or AM? A wider footprint and extra 55g, or a narrower, lighter rim?

Enve Rims. Its a no brainer unless you dont have the money.

And I personally would choose the XC wheel because an extra 1/4 pound in rims isnt worth the width for me.

If they are going on a 6in fully the AMs may be a better option.

Well, ENVE wheels come with Gorilla tape and tubeless valve stems for tubeless set-up. I just received my wheelset and will be setting them up tubeless tomorrow. Just wondering what Mike using now.

Thanks for sharing. Many trail riders swear by a wider footprint. Back in day, I personally preferred the Flow over the Arch because it was wider although a bit heavier. Now of course, Stan's made the Ex, which is sufficiently wide.

I have been using aluminum rims for over 20 years and I finally bit the bullet and bought a set of ENVE rims.
All I can say is that I will never go back to aluminum. They are very stiff and tough rims. I have been on my AM rims for over 600 rough miles and not one problem, they are a true as the day I bought them.
Yes they cost 8 times more than aluminum but they are worth every penny!
