Avid also makes CPS washers (the little ball and socket adjuster thingies) of varying thickness to get proper surface mating and wear pattern. I have found these to be the best solution with Avid brakes. Available in shops and online usually in hardware kits.

Thanks for the tip, just ordered 2 from jenson, 3.99 a piece, not bad.

For sanding rotors, I just use a "fine" grit . . . whatever that works out to be. You're just trying to scuff up the surface real good and remove bedded in material. 800 wet is kinda ridiculous . . . you'd be there for a while! I think I use 150, or 200. I also used the same on my pads, but I really screwed up a set of pads (left the surface convex). For how cheap pads are, I'd just replace em' . . . .

As for cleaning, 90% ISO Alcohol. Cleans very well and evaporates quickly without residue. Don't bother with "brake cleaner"

I have the same problem on my BB7s, to the point where the outside of the rotor is running into the caliper housing. I have checked and I am using the correct mounting bracket. I have added washers. I have a 160 mm rotor and the 160 mm bracket on, is there a 165 mm bracket that I could use?

Not that you need me to tell you this, but something is obviously very wrong. Can you take pics of the set up?

Is this on a fork or frame? Post mount or IS?

Have you tried flipping the mount around?

Just to clarify, are you saying that Avid makes CPS washers with different thicknesses than the standard ones that are supplied with Avid brakes? If so I have never seen these anywhere and if you could provide a link that would be great! I've generally just used the washer method to correct similar wear patterns on my Avid brakes (Elixirs, BB7). Probably about half my frames have need a washer to move the caliper contact point a little higher on the rotor so it seems tolerances of the ISO mounts are bit hit or miss.

It's the stock brake and bracket. My LBS had another one in and I looked at its bracket and wear pattern, looked the same. You really think I need a new bracket to gain just 1 mm at the max? Thanks or your reply.
Yeah man, it happened to me too. lol. My LBS replaced my brakes through SRAM, and the new rotors that came on it were 5mm smaller than my old ones. It wound up mis-aligning the caliper and rotor, by a little bit. My caliper bracket was "too tall" for the 180mm rotors, so I only rode it a short time like that until my new brackets came in. Now that I have the correct ones installed, it's obviously a world of difference and the way it should be.

Some of the new rotors are an awesome "upgrade" if you'd rather go that route, I'm sure there's better options out there than even what came with your current setup. I'm liking the G3 Clean Sweep rotors so far, even though this particular set is 5mm smaller in diameter.

I went ahead and kept the "old" adapters if I need them, as it seems like Avid doesn't want to keep to a standard. LOL.

Anyway, best of luck man. I know there's a few websites that sell the adapters, hardware kits, etc. I just like to support the LBS personally as much as possible, especially because the shop I regularly go to out here is absolutely bad ass.

Well now, this is rich. I have not been able to find a set online anywhere. My shop had a few on hand which I needed for such an adjustment. My '10 Stumpy FSR also came stock with some thicker adjustment sockets. So, I assumed they must be available.

So you replaced rotors and brackets? I was thinking of just replacing the rotor and see what happens, that my get me where I need to be

I'd usually use the thin washers supplied with rim brakes pads (have a bunch of them at home). I simply grind them on a 220 wet on a flat surface to make sure they are flat on both side and sometimes do the same with the cups and cones washers when they lol like they could use some polishing to reduce friction when centering the whole thing. And sometimes just using longer bolts take away the problem.

Whatever floats your boat I guess.
