I have an extra bike that im gonna sell. Its a 2011 Giant Yukon Fx. I was gonna change the crankset out. Come to find out, the freakin arms are stripped bad! The crank puller can take the left side off but the other side with the teeth will not budge!

Has anyone else had this happen? Any ideas or ways to get this thing off! I really want to sell it. But im not gonna sell it knowing it has this problem. I have only tried the crank puller. Anything? Any advice would be helpful.

The only thing ive tried is the crank puller, nothing else.

So you've removed the retention bolt, threaded the crank puller in to the drive side crank and it pulls out of the crank rather than pulling the crank off of the bottom bracket?

If that's the case, a gear puller will get the crank arm off.

if things get really gnarly with that crank, you could chop it off by cutting into the arm with a dremel or something, or chop the end of the spindle off with a hacksaw. a new ST BB should be a cheap thing to replace.

hey thanks for the help! Yes that is correct. doesnt pull off. the non drive side does come off though. Im gonna check into the gear puller first before i try any cutting haha! but thanks again to both of you!!

^^Conditionally Good Advice^^

I currently have the same situation on one of my frames and it's just gonna get hacksawed off. Just cut right through the spindle of the bb and be done with it.
This is good advice if you're replacing your bottom bracket in addition to your cranks.

Agreed. It's easier to cut through the crank arm with a dremel or pry the crank arm off with a ball joint remover than cut through the hardened steel spindle of a bottom bracket. Plus, odds are, the BB doesn't need to be replaced.

There is a tool, used normally by maintenance workers to remove bearings from axle. I don't know what is the English for it, it is called "Aptzer" in Hebrew. If you can get hold of one of right size, you won't need to cut anything.
The tool itself works just like crank puller, but instead of threading in, it holds the bearing (or in your case - crankarm) from behind with 3 loose hooks.

Yep...

It's called a gear puller.

BB Spindle is hardened. it's going to take a while.

Easier: cut a notch in the aluminum crank arm on each side where the spindle goes into the crank arm. One cut on each side will loosen it. You may even be able to save the BB if you do it right.

well got it off! gear puller did the job! now im in the market for a new crankset and bb. the Yukon Fx is 8sp. Any ideas? not looking to spend more than 120. will 9sp triple crank work?

The crank i took off was 22/32/42. All im finding is 22/32/44. will it work?

9 spd crank will work fine for what you need... but can't use shimano 10spd (not sure on sram)

Truvativ Stylo 3.3 is in your price range and pretty nice based on what i've seen

older LX is $90 on jenson might be worth a look...

if you don't care about how light it is you can get a number of '11 cranks for well under your budget with BB on jenson or pricepoint (and i'm sure others)
