So, with 2011 coming to an end, what did you scratch off your bucket list? And what's left over for 2012?

My 32 yr's on son took ME to Baker Hot Spring(by Mt Baker in Wash. state, where I took him as a baby)

Rode my Mt Bike in Yosemite,

Served on the GGNRA liason committee in Pacifica for the last 5 yrs , where a few of us nere do wells lobbied tirelessly to assure 100% access for Mt Bike riders. And this year those efforts paid off at the 4000+ acre, newest National Park in the whole damn country(Rancho Corral de Tierra) is essentially 100% trails open to all pedalers....

Attending many Midcoast Trails Council meetings +bird dogged San Mateo County staff to provide 100% access to Mt Bike riders on all dirt trails in their newest Park. (Pillar Point Ridge)...
SMCo staff were going to steer us down by Half Moon Bay airport, in traffic .......So Fk yeah, I'm damn proud of this little victory of dirt riding opportunity from a 100% anti MB publicly funded entity....

Read about these actions here:
ROMP :: Responsible Organized Mountain Pedalers

2012,
Work w Santa Clara County Parks + the Equestrian community to expand Almaden Quicksilver Co Park west for trails riding opportunities,

Volunteer w MROSD to assist in communicating past+future MB riding opportunities at Sierra Azul,Mt Um, Purisima to the Sea dirt paths...

Pay my dues to ROMP + IMBA

Quit drinking (Sigh!) and quit smoking! (yea!) Bought a mountain bike after not riding for almost twenty years! Next year i'm going to try and get a life and maybe do some serious riding.

March: Rode P-town for the first time
May: First major bike injury (sprained shoulder, P-town)
July: first DH bike... sold el-Cheapo hardtail soon after
August: first time at N*
August: first time Northshore riding in Vancouver (Mt. Seymour)
November: first time at Bootleg Canyon, Nevada

2011 made me realize how much I suck as a rider, but I love it!

June: Got a garmin for my birthday and strava... whee!
July: Got to watch my son, Elliot Danger Penning, come into the world. That was one of the biggest most awesome things I got to experience and wow my wife is a trooper to go through that whole giving birth thing!

I havn't gotten nearly enough riding in this year and have had a bit more trouble dealing with the stress between work and the kiddo, but it'll get better, Lighter work load next year and my wife goes back to work so hopefully that means less OT and more baby and bike riding time.

in 2011 I rode:
ashland
post canyon
sandy ridge
moab
fruita/grand junction
gooseberry
bend
mills peak

and that is just the new stuff. its been a great year and Im looking forward to an even better 2012. I plan to hit whistler and take some clinics so I can get some actual skills.

2011 was also my busiest year in terms of racing. being part of a team is fun and motivating and I even managed to snag a few cat 2 podiums. shooting for some wins in 2012, or maybe even not being dead last in cat 1.

I would also like to thank the wonderful people who invited me along on these trips. mtbr has helped introduce me to some amazing friends and Im grateful for that.
Wow Aaron, you made it to a lot of fun places, I've yet to go to. I hope to have more time for mountain bike trips next year, when we won't spend 3 weeks in Europe. I biked with my family in Lithuania and Latvia, but all on flat paved, gravel and dirt roads or bike paths to enjoy the countryside there.

not my biggest riding year either, but i did get a couple of long (with wherewolf) rides in tahoe this summer in areas i hadn't ridden before. still hoping to get up to oregon next summer for a few days. too much turmoil on the home and work front to get much riding done...j-c, looking forward to riding with you and your crew more in 2012!

Are there any brave souls that will do a 'non-biking year in review?' Photos and the works!
August was the best vacation month, ever!

2 weeks eating and drinking through Barcelona and San Sebastian and then a week floating down the Colorado.

2011 was awesome.

Early year started off with some awesome skiing at Kirkwood with the best winter since 2006:

Well, if we go beyond biking, August was pretty good. Took the family back to France for the first time in a long time. Visited quite a few castles, St James American cemetery in Brittany and Leonardo da Vinci residence where they had reproductions of some of his inventions including a wooden bike.

I Survived

Aside from riding a few new trails @ Oakridge and the Makenzie River Trail for the first time, I did the usual crap-ton of racing and at least I survived, barely in some cases.....

Prescott Monstercross [Favorite race in AZ to date]

12 Hours of Weaverville [the race I hate/love]

Cascade Cream Puff [47th O/A @ 11:41]

High Cascades 100 [109 actually]

Tahoe Sierra 100 [Just plain ugly for me]

Kirkwood 9 to 5 [mechanical @ 3 laps....boo]

Oakridge Fat 55 [my favorite, any race that includes Heckletooth is WORTHY of praise]

San Jacinto Enduro [my favorite race in CA, 74 miles in 8:03]

Worked out to @ 610 miles of racing, which is a bit less than last year's 700+ miles.

I started to participate in some MTB races on a regular basis. As a slow beginner, but that is still more fun that just riding on my own.

Did all four of Bigfoot's endurance races - 2x12h and 2x8h and won my beginner cup. ;) Impressed my 7 year old. Those are some nice places to ride.

Next year I will try to ride a bit faster. Or maybe I will concentrate on trail running and lose some weight..

Just a few snapshots for 2011. Ride. Eat. Drink. Repeat.

1. Kicked off 2011 with a yet another great GG2MB ride.
2. Seemed this was the year of Pliny for Norcal. Some Pliny the Elder sausages that were headed to FC's first big beer party.
3. My birthday ride! Everyone was off to search for snow in the local mountains that weekend. Would there be snow in SF? This was the pic that made it into Dirt Rag.
4, 5. Kicked off TNGR in April, and they continued strong throughout the year. It was all about evenings with good beer and good folks. Santa Teresa was mixed in for Tuesdays/Wednesdays. Good stuff before the heat of summer kicked in. The lighting at STP made for great photo ops.
6. Steven's Canyon ride and picnic for winning KOM. There certainly was no shortage of good grub. This is JustJeff's pulled pork and slaw.
7, 8. Road trips ruled. Fruita and Moab. EPIC.
9, 10. Keeping it closer to home. Trips to Tahoe and Kernville did not disappoint.
