Hey Socal forum, just wondering if there are any beginner to intermediate trails that are good for an evening ride in the dark. I'm not a new rider, but I did just start riding again since having surgery and moving out to SD. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and if anyone doesn't mind a tag-a-long (who's out of shape and recovering from surgery) that would be awesome too! Thanks ahead of time.

any of the trails in the area are ok for night riding. just know your limits and get off and walk if you want to.

I haven't night ridden in years but we would routinely ride Mission Trails (east and west), Sycamore Canyon, and Penasquitos Canyon. we even would hit Anderson on occasion but I'd only do that with a large group just in case........Daley ranch is officially a no-no as it is closed at dark and I did get reprimanded by a ranger there once. I never rode down south much but I imagine most of those trails are ok too.

I try to Night ride 2-3 times a week usually in Spring canyon off the 52 and mast in Santee and sometimes PQ generally Tues. and Fri. you are more than welcome to tag along as i am not a very good climber so would consider it a casual pace. I will be out there tonight (and most Tues.) about 7:00 and 5:45 on Fridays

FYI, Sycamore is posted closed after sunset and there have been a few repremands out there. They are unrelated to the current military harrasment of riders on or near Miramar. That is a whole nother thing....

Thank you SoCalNomadRider! I doubt I can make it tonight but I'm going to make arrangements to make it Friday. I'll shoot you a PM beforehand to give you a heads up to look for this nite-noob.

I currently have just a NR 600 and a wimpy headlamp for a light setup. I'm hoping my wife gets the hint about another light for Christmas:) Will I need more light power to ride around here? I can probably borrow another one.

Thanks everyone for your input and warnings about where NOT to go.

Goodan Ranch is posted. Sycamore Canyon that isn't part of Goodan Ranch is a gray area regarding night time access

There is a guy that rides with us once in a while that runs a NR 600 also and is ok especially if there are a few others with bright lights it kind of helps and i also have a extra light or two if you need to borrow a 2nd as i generally like to run one on my bars and helmet.

We are meeting on street on the west side right off the mast exit/52 around 5:45/6:00 tonight if any one would like to join most have not ridden much lately so this will be a easy paced ride with only a couple climbs and some fun single track.

I will be on a 29" Canfield Brothers Yelli Screamy

Definitely interested in some beginner/ intermediate night rides. I'm new to San Diego and mountain biking. I can't believe how early it gets dark here this time of year...
how early it gets dark here? where are you from? where I grew up it was dark in the winter by 4:00. it also was light until 10 in the summer so you take the good with the bad.
