Hi all,
Majorly annoyed at the moment. I have just come home from a small ride on firetrail like tracks, on my dad's two week old Merida Matts Trail 300D. Coming downhill, a slight hump in the track caused the bike to jump slightly, but I was doing an indicated 20 kilometres per hour, not fast at all. Long story short, the rear wheel is now severely buckled and my legs and arms are killing me from carrying the bloody thing the 2.4 kilometres out of the trail.

Now my dad's not to pleased about his brand new bike having a buckled wheel so soon on the first offroad trip it has done (has done roughly 3 km on asphalt).

Will this be covered under warranty by Merida or Alexrims? Something so small should not cause the wheel to buckle, and it is buckled to the point that it will be a replacement or nothing. I am 55kgs, it should be impossible.

Can anyone give me advice, and should I trust the wheelset again, even if it is replaced under warranty? The wheelset is an AlexRims Matts Pro D wheelset, from what I gather a lower scale wheelset rebranded by Merida.

Surely they would have to admit fault at the wheel failing when it is less than two weeks old?
You might think. But getting a company to stand up to something like that is like getting them to warranty your flat tire. Give it a shot but don't be surprised when you get the cold shoulder.

Admit fault? Not a chance.
Flat tire is a great analogy, and even though the wheels may have been very poorly built, your story includes the word "jump," which is likely the end of any chance at warranty (not that there was one to begin with).
Definitely sucks, but the age of the wheel really doesn't have anything to do with it. If you had run over it with a car you wouldn't expect them to warranty it.
What they're going to see is: this guy's kid took the bike out, jumped it, and tacoed the wheel. warranty? nope.
replace it with something built by a decent builder, even if you use cheap parts.
