I've been glimpsing occasional ads of some old fox RP2 in the 7.875x2.5" format. But I could find nothing concrete on it, even the 2012 Fox RP23 which JensonUSA was selling in that length x stroke has dissappeared, and searches on fox links yielded nothing.

I did hear of Diverse Shocks coming out with a 7.875 x 2.5" dueler shock, but I'm looking for an air shock. Does anybody knows if it actually exists or just typos on the internet? Anyone owns a shock in that length x stroke?

Hmm Thanks TNC, I was also suspecting something along that lines. Trying to squeeze an additional 6mm of shaft travel out of a 200mm shock is not easy I guess. I did ask X-fusion about it regarding their air shocks, and they said there's no way they can squeeze the extra travel out.

The reason is because I currently own a dixon, and it gives a 145mm travel out of a 2.25" stroke, so if I use a 2.5" stroke I can get the equivalent of a 161mm travel. There's sufficient clearance in the rear triangle since I'm running a 1x9, and there's no front derailleur cable housing to get in the way of the suspension workings when it bottoms out.

I don't think Fox has ever had a 2.5 stroke shock in that length, and frankly I've never heard of it in any shock. I'm not familiar with that possibility you mention from Diverse. I'd say the Fox reference was a misprint by Jenson. One problem with a shock in that configuration is that the frame manufacturer would have to address that shorter shock and super long stroke in a pretty unique way. Nothing's impossible, but even the shock manufacturer would have to get pretty creative to some degree. That short a shock with that long a stroke could challenge the shims, oil, and other damping components quite strongly.

From the looks of the wear on the the shaft, it looks like it has 2in of stroke.
How far can you compress the shaft into the shock with the air out?
I have an old Talas rear shock that has a 2 3/4 in.shaft but will only use 2in. of it.

Doesn't look like that bottom measuring tape is lined up evenly. I'm guessing 8.5x2.5...?
I'll say 8.5x2.0...

And I have a X-Fusion Glyde RL coil shock that is 9.00x2.25... Silly travel :p

There's also the possibility that they are OEM shocks. Specialized for example loves to spec shocks 1/8 or 1/4" difference in eye to eye lengths or stroke amounts from what's available aftermarket, to ensure that specialized bike owners HAVE to order replacement shocks thru their specialized dealerships.

My Klein Mantra had a Fox Float with 7.875X2.5. It has a 5th element on it now, 7.875 X 2.25. I don't think anyone makes one in that size anymore, Several years ago when I was looking for a new shock I read that Push could extend the RP3s from 7.5X2.25 to fit correctly, but I never checked into it further. It's only a 10% loss of travel, and on the Mantra that actually made it ride better : )
