Ok - have done some searches and just want to confirm. To remove the crank bolt the right hand or drive side is normal - counter clockwise to remove. On the bottom bracket - shimano- the right hand side or drive side is clockwise to remove. Opposite on the left or non-drive side. Do I have this correct?

Thanks

The way you state this is rather confusing.

Here's how it works. To remove crank bolts - ALL crank bolts are normally threaded, righty tighty, lefty loosey. This applies to cartridge bottom brackets and external bearing BBs as well.

For the bottom bracket - The drive side is turned clockwise (toward the front of the bike) to remove. For the non-drive side the cup is turned counter clockwise (again toward the front of the bike) to remove. Again, this apples to cartridge and external bearing BBs.

The easiest way to remember it is, for bottom brackets, with the bike in a stand and standing beside the side to be removed, the wrench will always be turned toward the front wheel, regardless of what side you are working on. The reverse is true for install, turn the wrench toward the rear wheel.

Thanks - was not sure if the crank bolts were left and right hand threads. So crank bolts counter clockwise to remove on both sides. BB wrench toward front wheel on both sides to remove (makes the drive side clockwise to remove).
