This, I suspect, will be the deal-breaker with Golden: "newer reasonably priced homes"

I'm fairly certain these don't exist in Golden. Even the little old houses are $$$$.
True that. However, I would suspect that we aren't too much more than Highlands ranch. I could see what Derek the Realtor says.

Douglas County and Boulder County typically have the highest median home prices in the metro area. I would suspect that HR and Golden are very similar as far as median home prices with Golden having a higher price per square foot. HR just doesn't have many older ranch style homes.

Golden is a nice place but they don't have the variety of newer homes that HR has and DougCo schools are tops in the metro area.

Hey, wasn't HR built on an old landfill? I remember something about old tires pumping thru ppl's lawn...or was that during a 7/11 haze?

Right. When translated a 2000 sq ft house is going to cost you about $100K more in Golden.

Which I would say is "considerable"...

Reps for you sir. We plan to go back in about 6-9 months.

Question: Can a hardtail survive most front range trails and stuff at Trestle? I ride a Banshee Scirocco w/ 150mm Sektor. Thinking of getting a Heckler frame.

I'd be happy to buy you a beer and invite you over to our place. I always extend a warm welcome to those that want to live here. We enjoy like people and families in our community, nothing better for us than having another family to invite on our camping trips. We can tour you around and you'd love it. But the way we tour around is via bike. We'll make you park your car. IN which we'll hit some trails, grab a beer, ride around down town and enjoy the creekside. Bring the kiddo, cause there might be an ad-hoc bluegrass band playing on my neighbors' deck with their kids running around.

Wow! Where did those numbers come from? I would be very interested in knowing what the median sales price is for each of those communities; It would be much better gauge of the differences. Averages are easily affected by a few really low or really high numbers (outliers), which is why these type of numbers are generally reported with the median sales price.

I am surprised at the huge difference; I certainly wouldn't live there if it was going to cost me $100K more than if I moved to HR. Golden might be nice but it isn't that nice. No Golden in my future. :p I will definitly stick to beautiful Castle Rock.

You can ride one, but its not much fun :)

Keep the hard tail, there are trails around here that you'll enjoy. Getting a full suspension bike is definitely nice, makes things more cush.

Yes, a good many of the Highlands Ranch neighborhoods are built on the old Denver dump. Those aren't naturally rolling hills....

Highlands Ranch is much closer to Ikea than Golden though. And Park Meadows Mall. That is really important to some people.

HR median $304k

Golden median $360k

The numbers are from Metrolist MLS, which is the multiple listing service from the Denver metro area.

Doesn't the Mills/Denver West count? The only things missing for Golden are an IMAX, and a planetarium. I like eye-candy :D

I lived in Burlington, Co for nearly 3 years. I wanted to gargle with buckshot on a daily basis. I worked at the prison there. Went to Limon to haul inmates to the Blue Bird a couple times a month.....couldnt imagine wanting to live there either.....? Parker and Arvada are dumps. I had a friend that lived in Fountain. Looked like a pretty cool place, all new and stuff. We go to Crested Butte skiing alot and I REALLY love this town. I wana go ride up there sometime in the summer.
