You forgot Trinidad, PBlow, Lamar, Canyon City, Salida, Durango, Montrose, Steamboat, and assly and leaky Vail. I'd put Summit and Breck, but those are just crappier version of the 'Boat and Butt.

Woo... Walden is SMOKIN'! :D
You did a good job at steamboat. I'll work on the others.

Colorado springs most bail bondsmen per capita. This is the anti-boulder, full of boring surrounded by beautiful scenery. Oh, you must join a church or they'll revoke your man card.

Lamar: the strobing from all those wind turbines will turn you homicidal. So, not so good for the familia.

Trinidad: well, there's this: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/07/sunday/main4423154.shtml

PBlow: Someone told me there are a lot of boss' ex-wives...? Good winter riding. But summer time, you need to get a hold of SylentK.

Montrose: ever seen Breaking Bad? Yeah, it's kinda like that.

More?

Castle Rock: If rubbing your elbows with drunk ex-sports supertards is your thing then this is the place to be. High percentage of cougars, but some of just those jock groupies didn't age so well. Public schools have been closed and only those with large trust funds or friends in high places are allowed to go to school here.

Palmer Lake - The front line in the war of Hippies vs. Yuppies. Incoming Boulder rejects have grand visions of streets lines with blinky lights, horse drawn carriages and other nonsense while neglecting the ONLY reason anyone would want to live here, the trails. Yes, they are there. Good ones too. But apparently city law prevents locals from telling you where they are. Can you say.... trail nazis? :O

Monument - Shirt tucking-in Capital of the US. This town government is so corrupt that the Pope considers it his home away from home. Trails? You can only access trails here with a military ID or armed escort. Black socks are not allowed and white socks must cover the entire shin. Schools are pretty good, but of course your children will need a thorough religious de-contamination after graduation due to the proximity to Focus on the Family. If this photo scares you then don't move here.

Holy Cow no one has said the two best choices!!! Well I may be partial but I adored my time growing up in Glenwood Springs and Basalt, riding 7 miles up the frying pan road from the bus stop is simply spiritual. Stay out of Carbondale :eekster:

IMHO.... If you don't mind living among the wildfire risk, I love North Boulder County (mountains) -- (Lee Hill, Peakview, Deer Trail, etc). Great school systems, TONS of events for kids in Boulder like Wed night farmer's market, Monday Meadow music at Chautauqua, etc. And mountain lifestyle, air, is a great way to raise a family.

Pros:
Lot of housing options that are within 6 miles to downtown Boulder.
Summer: Nederland trails are 30 minutes away up Left Hand, Brainard lake hiking (and Sourdough, etc biking), DH at LHC or dirt biking, Valmont bike park, tons of training rides out the door, enough land to build your own MTB track on your yard, raising your kids in the mountains where they can run/jump/ride and be kids!
Spring/Fall/Winter: Heil/Hall is close; back country hiking, skiing in Indian Peaks; easy access to Lyons
From Great schools.com: Foothill Elementary School, located in Boulder, Colorado, serves grades K-5 in the Boulder Valley Re 2 School District. It is among the few public elementary schools in Colorado to receive a distinguished GreatSchools Rating of 10 out of 10
Job market: Boulder, Interlocken, Denver (DTC is WAY too far)

Regardless of where you decide to move check out http://www.greatschools.org/test/landing.page?state=CO&tid=15

Cons:
Hippies, liberals, etc. and radically ridiculous political views
I-70 and the DH resorts are 20+ minutes further away
Golden rides are 45 minutes away
Buff Creek is over an hour away
Required de-contamination of liberal, idealistic drivel they will be exposed to in school
Boulder High drug problems.... rampant!
You have an intimate relationship with your chainsaw
Definitely a bit more driving living in the mountains... I'm 12-15 minutes to downtown Boulder which is a different lifestyle than a walkable community. (But this also means I don't have freaks
stealing bikes out of my garage and chester the child-molester patrolling for my kids)
Did I say hippies, liberals, etc. and radically ridiculous political views?
Finally -- you said "Community"... living in the mts you make your own community and vibe. You have to be outgoing and involved to meet your neighbors.

Prior to this I lived in Stapleton Denver which is super kid/family friendly. SUPER unbike friendly... being on the East side of Denver made an afternoon ride almost impossible, and the local bike path got old quickly!

wow, who knew Golden was the best place in Colorado?
It's not. There are too many sarcastic enginerdy types there. Altho, when compared to Neo Republican lawyers and ppl riding same vintage bikes when they wrote the specs for dirt and namesake for the same town they live in...

:D

Golden Well hell, if you like 6 Open Space Parks within 10 minutes, a Bike park, a mountain town feel, then this may be your cup of tee. Lots of these uppity yuppies that love to be outdoors with their kids are the norm. The houses are built like *****, but no one actually lives in them. Coors is here, and the beer tastes like piss, unless you're a poor School of mines Student looking to knock off the brainier brain cells. (hint, I live here because my single track is a 2 minute ride away.)
... and the best dam swinger clubs on the Front Range.

Curious, where was I off? The part about how that trails around Golden are a complete sh*tshow?
Clearly you're a tourist in the matter. Balls cut, man card revoked.

Goldenites ride in the mornings. There aren't many people on the trails at all. That said, any given 5pm trail head from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs is a rush hour.

Call it a sh*tshow, we don't care. But I am able to put in a quick ride faster than most can load their bikes up in a car. Look at where you live and local proximity of where the trials are, I'll guarantee I have more miles to pedal with a 2-5 minute (BIKE) commute.

Careful, the Golden mafia will cut your balls off for making statements like that!
The Golden Mafia? The enginerdy pose? Paaleeez! :skep:

I am Tweak; my enginerdy kung-fu has no equal in the ranks of those pvssies! Cut my bean bag off? Pfff... Tweak is not only a name but a title, and those pvssies wither when they hear that moniker!

I must have hit a nerve, sorry about that. No need to get your panties in a bunch, it's all good.

I have a sh*tload of empty singletrack out my back door, but I don't feel the need to throw it in other people's faces to feel better about myself.

Anyhow, like I said, it's all good.
