Hi, I am looking for some advice on my used Diamondback Response I just purchased. I love the look of the bike and plan to keep it and upgrade some components. I am planning a trip to British Columbia to ride part of the Trans Canada Trail next year. I am just curious what parts I should look at upgrading for this trip as all the parts are original to the bike. I need new tires for sure, any suggestions? and , Should I think about upgrading anything else before I go on the trip as parts of the trail are fairly isolated? I am planning just a 2-3 day ride. I am really new to riding, so any info that you would be willing to share with me will be appreciated.

i just bought myself a 2008 diamondback response sport and i got a great deal on it. i wish someone would answer this as well, because i want to upgrade my components and have no idea where to start. i know i want to upgrade the fork but i dont know what kind or what size or anything like that.

Not sure what year mine was, maybe 07 but anyway it should be pretty similar spec.
I found the biggest difference was changing the fork. I got a 140mm rockshox revelation because I was planning on buying a full suspension frame later to put the fork on, but something with 120mm of travel should be about the right sizefor the frame. Standard 1 1/8th steerer on my response.
I only upgraded the drive once it was worn out, which then made a big difference.
Not sure what the trails are like in BC as i;m from the UK, but maybe some stronger wheels (I got hope pro 2's on DT Swiss EX500 rims).
Make sure all the contact points are comfy and the right size too.... Stem length and handlebar width make a big difference. Clip in vs flat pedals (I fidn clip in much better).
Not sure what brake's yours has - mine had cheap hydraulics that overheated easily, upgraded to avid elixir's.

Like I said, I got these parts because I was swapping them all over to a new frame (140mm full suspension, gary fisher roscoe) but upgrading them definatly make a world of difference to the diamondback, most noteably the fork.

What parts is yours specced with?

I had a similar question about a bike I had and the general concensus was to leave it alone and replace components as they wear out or break.
I talked to my local bike shop today and that is exactly what they said.

I definately am going to change the rims, one reason is because they do not match. Somebody wrecked one before I got it and put the same make of rim back on, but not the same style. The front one is all black, while the back one has a polished shiny edge to it. The fork is a Rock Shox Dart 1 that is not getting any rave reviews. I believe I will change that in time as well. I like the looks of the bike. When I saw it sitting in front of the bike shop in their used aisle, I had to have it. Now I really enjoy riding.
