There are going to be a lot of comparisons with the Santa Cruz Tallboy. Both are carbon. Both have 100mm travel. Both weigh about 5.1 lbs. And the cost is about the same (Tallboy with RP23 upgrade has an MSRP of $2673). Even the geometries are about the same (except the Tallboy has shorter chainstays). It probably just comes down to whether you prefer the VPP or the CVA suspension.

I think I could build one under 22# pretty easily, with a 1x10 setup, less if I got some carbon Roval wheels. My 1x10 air9c, with a heavy Reba XX is under 20#. So, if I picked up one of these frames and a new SID... :D I think one of these is in my future.

So now that we know

  • Travel: 100mm
  • Weight: 5.06 for a med
  • BB: PF30 (SRAM makes a PF30 adapter for GXP)
  • Cable routing: Guess I just sort of understand this

I'm real curious how this was kept as a secret til last week. Someone on the trail out in Colorado had to see it. Guess anyone that saw it was paid off with first dibs on a frame?

Yes I was told about the pain that would come there way.

& selling your bikes before it came out & before anyone knew about it was a big carrot to.

Murdered out w/ X.0 drivetrain and a Fox 32 Talus fork. Kinda wondering how the terralogic would feel, but leaning more towards the RLC
Yes I really like the look of the new polished 2012 X0 parts & the X0 cranks look so much better than the XX

I'm not 100% sure yet what fork I will run on mine but I'm even thinking about the Fox 34 as an option with the travel reduced,I really like the silky smooth ride that can be got with the larger piston fork & the larger legs would be nice to.

The new 2012 Sid's look good to.

You're probably right on the RLC--if the rear end is as plush as people are saying, the terralogic may not compliment it well. I ordered a frame today (murdered or vana-whatever I can get my hands on), and will be going with the Talas RLC.

Almost feels like cheating on my Air9, but I didn't feel guilty tonight thinking about how much better a techy 1-hour climb would be sooo much better on the Jet.

Man, I love the look of that bike! My wife just got a promotion today AND I just found out about this bike today. How do I convince her it's a sign (not a coincidence) for me to get one?
Just tell her that having the best wife just makes you want to have the best bike as well.:D

You do get told you are full of it but a small price to pay to get the new bike.

I did bring it up, and she jokingly replied back which was a great sign
My LBS is having a Niner demo day today so I'm going to spend a couple hours trying some different bikes. Coincidence...I think not!

Promotion, positive response from wife, demo day the same week....man it's like you hit the karma jackpot or something. Definitely a sign that you should buy one :)

I am planning on selling my Rip 9 and entertaining the idea of a Carbon Jet. I have an AL Jet 9 also and love it. I went over the RIP 9 very good over the weekend. It looks like new with the exception of a few rock hits to the underside of the downtube where there are 3 or 4 dings/small dents from high speed rock hits. Where I ride there are LOTS and LOTS of rocks. Some large, some small. They can be kicked up and whack your cranks, downtube, shin, etc. Some at high speeds 20+. My question is: are there any precautions taken in the design/manufacturing process for the Carbon Jet for this type of occasion which is inevitable in a riding environment such as mine? I know there is a 5 year warranty (which is great) but will the Carbon Jet survive these types of blows? When would you know if you need to send it in for inspection or whatever? I don't like the idea of not having a bike for any length of time. If a frame did have to be sent back, what sort of turn around time could be expected?
