I read somwhere there is some kind of tape that only sticks to itself. And its good for protecting the the paint from the chain. Anyone know the name?
Why ? Just get a bike specific chain stay protection its like 5 bucks.Go to a sport place (dick's, sport chalet, etc) get some hockey tape (cotton tape) and use that.
It'll help, I used to use it on the bottom of my air tank for paintball when I played tournaments, helped protect it and helped it grip.
Because a roll of grip tape will last virtually forever. Why ? Just get a bike specific chain stay protection its like 5 bucks.
Also pretty cheap. I think I paid around $6 for a roll that will do 3 bikesUK: amalgamating tape
US: splicing tape
Whatever it's called it's very handy!
1+ do this. the tube will eventually start to dry rot, at which point you can spend $0.00 and ten minutes chopping the old one off and putting a new one on.An old innertube and two zip ties will do the job.
Slice the innertube into a strip and wrap it around the chainstay like you'd wrap a road bar with bar wrap and secure it at either end with zip ties.
It's removable without damaging the paint on your bike, damps the noise of the chain hitting the chainstay well and it's cheap/free.
Actually unless your looking closely at it, it looks about the same. Black rubber wrapped around the stay.Im not really in to looking at a tube and zip ties. But if i had them around i would. The tape will look cleaner
