My mcr is cracked, it is 2.5 yrs old, and niner says they wont cover. oviously out of warranty. I thought steel was supposed to be more robust than aluminum. I am really surprised that niner only has a 2 yr warranty. I will never buy from niner again if they cant stand behind their products better than this

I agree with smilingsteve most any frame builder will be able to repair that. As well I would talk directly with niner about a discount on a replacement frame, it never hurts to ask.

I am shocked that you broke it. What is your weight and riding style?

An MCR should be fine getting a little air here and there..

I can't imagine Niner not giving you a "crash replacement" frame at a discount to full-retail? If not, have it repaired and keep riding it..

I'm a bit disappointed that the paint is already (~ 6mos of riding) cracking behind my top-tube gusset but I had read about this before buying the frame. I knew it was a possibility but I hoped they had addressed the issue.

I'm not sure if I should put some clear nail polish over the cracked paint or try to use the touch-up paint (which did not work well at all on my EMD). Any tips?

I'm wondering where the crack is? Top tube gusset? It sounds like there is too much flex there. Peeling paint in that area is probably a flex issue also. Do you guys have a L or XL size frame?

Touch up paint should work better than clear nail polish. If it didn't work last time, I assume you mean it didn't stick. I would get some primer from an auto touch up kit, and scuff up the area a little. Then apply the primer, the paint, and buff it down with 500, 1000, and then 1500 grit sand papers,Then clear coat on top. Rubbing compound is also good touch for final blending and smoothing. That should give you professional looking results.
At auto parts stores they have kits with the stuff you need.

I don't want to derail the OPs thread so I will post a pic in a diff thread when I have a chance to take one. It is a large frame and the cracked paint is across the weld on the rear of the gusset just in front of the Pedal Damnit. From what I've read in other threads, the paint cracks there because that is no weld on the rear but just a seam filled with bondo. The sides and front at the headtube are clearly welds

My point is that This is a high end frame, and cost over 800 dollars, the warranty should be better. 2 years is pretty ridiculaous in my opinion I purchased steel cause it is supposed to be stronger than aluminum. No I dont jump it, just ride. I weigh 200 lbs, Salsa has a better warranty and is less money, I will just have to buy a el mariachi. another question, If i do have it welded, what do i do about the weld bead inside the seat post.

Man, I would go after the people who sold you the frame and did not disclose it only had a 2 year warranty.

Bondo? Why the heck would they do that?
So no wonder there is too much flex there. I know they make more flexible paints, for use on plastic bumpers and such, which may offer longer life in that area.
Is this why my Air 9 has a crack in the paint around the BB area? There is not crack in the frame thank god!!! :)

Search around.....more and more companies are axing the lifetime warranty and going with shorter term warranties. 2 years is pretty common these days.
